Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an extinguishing process by sealing off burning oil wells.
Certain methods of extinguishing wells by obturation, already known are reliable but extremely time-consuming to implement, such as the patent of MR KERMIT G. ROWLEY filed on 7.03.72 under the number 3 647 000 which relates to the obturation of a well characterized in that it comprises the introduction into the well head of several spherical elements serving as a buffer when they get stuck in the bending provided for this purpose.
The bending as well as the system for introducing spherical elements must be installed on the head of the wells definitively, which causes a load at the level of the bending and consequently a lower flow rate when the well is used.
As well as patent n ° 3 926 256 of 16.12.75 which requires the installation of a piston valve around the head of the well and which is activated during the injection of the elements forming a tight plug trapped in pistons on either side of the conduit.
This installation has the disadvantage of being final, costly to manufacture and not justified on all oil wells, so that on some wells the submerged piston valve is of no use except that to stop production.
The object of the invention is to present a simple and rapid process to be implemented without prior installation on the well.
To this end, the method according to the invention of burning oil wells is essentially characterized by
- obtaining a drop in oil level
under pressure in the delivery duct,
- by the introduction into the delivery pipe
at least one flexible expandable and incom
bustible likely to develop by expansion
in the duct a diameter greater than that of
says led,
- by inflating the balloon by means of a sleeve
fluid inlet with which it is provided, which
blocks the balloon and closes the conduit.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the drop in level is obtained by a bypass under the upper end of the conduit and the balloon is introduced into an opening formed in the wall of the conduit between the bypass and the upper end.
According to yet another embodiment, a first ballasted balloon is introduced from the top into the conduit to the water table then inflated, a lowering of the oil level is carried out by pumping from the head of the well and a second balloon is introduced into the well head and swollen.
Other advantages and characteristics of the invention will appear on reading the following description of embodiments given by way of non-limiting examples and illustrated by the accompanying drawings in which
FIGS. 1 to 5 represent a first form of implementation of the method which is the subject of the invention,
- Figures 6 to 9 show another form of implementation of the method of the invention.
In Figure 1 is shown schematically a burning oil well.
The level of oil which rises in the delivery pipe is indicated by the arrow F1 and is located at the level of the upper orifice of pipe 1.
According to the invention, a drop in the oil level is caused to avoid overflows. For this purpose, a bypass pipeline 2 is used by pumping at the base of the well.
The level reduction in F2 will be in value coordinated with the volume of a balloon 3.
An opening 4 is then produced between the bypass pipeline and the upper orifice of the conduit 1.
Through said opening a flexible balloon 3 is introduced into the conduit. This balloon is introduced deflated and will float occupy the free volume at the top of the duct.
By means of an air bag connected to a compressor 5 the balloon is then inflated. This balloon is capable of expansion allowing it to develop a diameter greater than that of the conduit in which it is blocked by closing said conduit 1, which puts out the fire for lack of fuel.
Advantageously, the balloon will be made of a non-combustible material, for example, based on asbestos or any other fire-resistant material whose outer wall will be rough and / or abrasive to obtain a close and rough contact against the wall.
The operation can be completed by projection on the orifice of the head of the sand well to obtain a blockage or dry ice.
After stopping the fire, the well will be put back into service by closing the bypass pipeline 2, by closing the opening 4 for passage of the balloon 3 and by removing it.
It is also conceivable that after lowering the oil level from F1 to F2, the balloon 3 is introduced from above by means of a helicopter.
In this case, the balloon 3 will be provided with a ballast to facilitate its positioning in the conduit.
FIGS. 6 to 10 show another form of embodiment of the method which is the subject of the invention.
As shown, a first ballasted balloon 3 is introduced to the bottom of the well then inflated so as to close the well from below, which relieves the pressure in the conduit.
Advantageously, the positioning of the balloon in the conduit is carried out by means of a crane associated with a compressor 5.
It is then possible by pumping by means of a pump 6 from above to cause a drop in oil level to provide space for a second ballasted balloon 3A introduced by a second crane with inflation pump so that this balloon comes close the upper opening of the duct, which puts out the fire.
The balloon can be placed in a rigid tube fixed to the crane and brought in by downward movement of the boom of the crane or the rope.
This embodiment is particularly applicable in the case where the excessively high pressure in the duct 1 could oppose the action of the ballast.
It goes without saying that the method according to the invention and the implementation equipment (balloon) can be integrated into the assembly on all the wells as a preventive measure.
The method according to the invention is particularly simple and quick to implement.
