Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method and a device of a new type, for producing an anti-theft check, and in particular a bank check or a postal check.
We know that the theft of checkbooks and the various falsifications carried out on stolen checks constitutes a phenomenon of such magnitude that it has now become a scourge, as much for bankers as for users of a bank or postal account. .
The present invention aims to reduce, or even eliminate the inconvenience resulting from the theft of a checkbook, or more generally from the holding of a check by an unauthorized third party.
To achieve this result, the invention proposes, as a new process and industrial product, a check such that, if an unauthorized third party attempts to use it, the person, merchant or other to whom he gives this check, can immediately become aware of the situation, and refuse the check. In particular, the checkbook thief will have in his hands an unusable object, which preserves the interests of both the bankers, the account holder, and the merchants or service providers with whom the thief would try to pay with the stolen checks.
tre l'ensemble conventionnel attendu
The method according to the invention, to avoid the fraudulent use of a check, is characterized in that, on this check, are printed signs covered with scratch-off ink, so that at the time of handing over his check , to make a payment, the user must locate certain locations according to a code he knows, then scrape the ink only at these locations, to finally reveal some only of the patterns which then constitute a set
(number, words, or reasons) known to everyone, including the person to whom they give the check
Thus, the recipient can immediately refuse the check, in one or other of the following cases
1 - if the scratched pitches do not appear
be the expected conventional package
- if the check has been scratched at places
cements where this would not have been necessary
saire, which translates from 1 '
user, an attempt to search
che, usually fraudulent
According to another characteristic of the invention, all the checks of the same checkbook are different from each other, only being always the same the conventional assembly to finally appear.
Thanks to this arrangement, the following fraudulent attempt is thwarted: in the checkbook that he stole, the fraudster could sacrifice a check, and scratch it entirely, to locate the entire arrangement of coded signs. Knowing thus the structure of a check, he could fraudulently use the other checks of the checkbook, if these were all identical.
A checkbook according to the invention,; for the implementation of the above method, is characterized in that each check that it contains has a surface coated with a scratch-off ink, on ~ the visible surface of which is distributed a network of indices, while, under this ink to be scratched, are printed on the check signs of which we will make visible by scraping only those which constitute a known coded unit.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the indices printed on the scratch ink consist of a network of letters, while the signs printed on the check, under the scratch ink, consist of a network of numbers
According to another characteristic of the invention, the indices printed on the scratch ink, are constituted by a network of numbers, while the signs printed on the check, under the scratch ink are constituted by a network of letters.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the coded scratch-off surface is provided on the back of the check, so that the location of this check remains identical to that of checks known to date.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the code common to all the checks of the same checkbook presenting letters to be scratched, consists of a word that the user keeps in memory (place name, first name, or other
According to another characteristic of the invention, the known assembly to appear after scraping consists of a number (for example 123456 "
The appended drawing, given by way of nonlimiting example, will make it possible to better understand the characteristics of the invention, and the advantages which it is likely to provide.
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a check according to the invention
Figure 2 shows the overall network of indices appearing at the start on the scratch surface, each of the scratch indices having been surrounded by a tracking circle which, of course, does not appear on the actual check.
Figure 3 shows the corresponding overall network, the signs of which are printed directly on the check, below the layer of ink to be scratched off, of course, without the locating circles drawn on this drawing, for clarity of explanations .
Figures 4 and 5 correspond to Figures 2 and 3, but for another check from the same checkbook.
Ainsi , dans l'exemple illustré , les chiffres 7 sont répartis en douze lignes de chacune six chiffres.FIG. 1 shows a check 1, the front 2 of which has the same usual appearance as all known checks. On the other hand, on the back 3, a rectangular surface is provided coated with a layer of scratch-off ink 4. On this layer 4, is printed a network of letters 5, distributed for example in twelve lines of each six characters
Directly printed on the paper on verso 3, a network 6 of signs 7 has been provided, each of which consists of a number. Of course, on the intact check (FIG. 1), the entire network 6 remains invisible, covered and masked by the scratch-off ink layer 4. Each sign 7 is located below an indice or letter 5. Thus, in the example illustrated, the digits 7 are divided into twelve lines of each six digits.
The operation is as follows
The person who will issue the check must know their code word. Here it will be a six-letter word, for example: "VALERE". By traversing from top to bottom the lines of six letters of table 4, 5, the transmitter will scratch successively, and in the order where it meets them, the letters "V then" A "," L "," E ", "R", and "E". Thus, will appear successively, and arranged in order, going from top to bottom, the numbers "1", then 2 2 "," 3 "," 4 "," 5 "and" 6 ", as it appears on figure 3. Thus, the sender, as well as the recipient of the check, will be able to immediately realize the falsification and refuse the check, in particular in one or the other of the following cases
- if the expected coded digits do not appear in order by reading from top to bottom
- if figures other than these appear
- if one or more of them is missing
- if locations other than those that had to be scratched have also been scratched (this would translate an attempt to find out by someone who does not know the code)
Furthermore, as previously indicated, all the checks of the same checkbook are different from each other. In other words, both the arrangement of the letters 5 on the scratch-off ink layer 4 and the arrangement of the numbers 7 in the network 6 printed on the check paper are different from one check to another, to avoid any possibility of searching between several checks from the same checkbook (case of Figures 2 and 4).
knowing the code name "VALERE" knows that he will have to scratch successively, and in order, the six letters of this word, as he encounters them by browsing, from top to bottom, line by line, the network of letters 5 (case of checks in Figures 2 and 4). Also in all cases (checks in Figures 3 and 5), the six digits "1" 2 2 "," 3 "," 4 "," 5 "," 6 "will appear, in the desired order, at as we read from top to bottom (fi gure 5)
Of course, it would not depart from the scope of the invention, on the contrary, by printing figures on the scratch-off ink layer 4, while on scratching letters would appear, forming a coded name known to all, verso 3 of the check. Likewise, instead of numbers or letters, different other indices or signs could be used which could lead to the same result.
