Abstract

The process and apparatus according to the invention dry and degas powders by using a dynamic process under vacuum and at a high temperature in a special device called a "sand box" (10). This sand box (10) is subjected to slow alternating rotatory movements so as to cause the powder being treated to pass progressively from one compartment to another, both compartments being inside the sand box (10). The rotations thus enable the powder to be agitated for a variable but predetermined time. The sand box (10) is introduced into a leakproof vessel (20) situated upstream of a possible valve that might enable the treated powder to be routed towards a storage compartment, or to be sent for immediate use, without releasing the vacuum. The degassing operation is carried out under vacuum and at a high temperature. Application to the manufacture of components sintered by hot isostatic pressing.
