Abstract

The present invention relates to a system of encoded (5) infrared volume sensors (1) and (2), situated above each car space (10) in an underground car park, in order to make it possible to manage the free and occupied spaces using a microcomputer (15), by knowing their geographical situation in the car park. The data from the sensors (1) and (2) are transmitted in frequency multiplexing by a central unit (12) in a coaxial bus (13). The system also makes it possible to continuously monitor the occupation of preindicated spaces over time and to trigger an alarm if the space becomes free before the limit fixed with the computer.

Description

DESCRIPTION SYSTEME DE GESTION DE PLACES DE PARKING
DESCRIPTION OF PARKING SPACE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
The present invention relates to a system of sensors for the presence of vehicles in the delimited spaces of a parking lot. The main difficulty in managing parking spaces is due to a) the imprecision of the counting systems at the entrance and
exit b) the impossibility of knowing in which sector of the
parking, spaces are available c) not being able, therefore, to indicate to users,
these sectors.

These drawbacks cause, in general, a loss of exploitation of i # to 15 * of the potential places for the manager, and a loss of time for the users obliged to look for the free places in the different spans of the car park.

The existing systems at present all present numerous drawbacks which do not allow management except for the near place. The detection by magnetic loop on the passages is completely random (a metal trolley triggers the system like a car). The H.F. or hyper-frequency volume detectors are totally inoperative in the physical environment of a car park, the belon iron frame of which makes the propagation random. The ultrasonic sensors are triggered by the volumes of air displaced by the blowers and are very sensitive to the ambient environment (exhaust gas coming to deposit on the piezoelectric emitters of hydrocarbons) to allow a satisfactory operation. all these systems are either limited in capacity for a normal reaction time, or affected by a reaction time too long to be effective.

All these disadvantages are eliminated by this
Invention whose detection system is based on infrared codes, each sensor being equipped with a transmitter and 2 directional receivers, one of the 2 receivers being solicited only when a mass equivalent to a car is present (therefore occupation of the place). The directivity of the receivers being obtained by cylindrical barrels whose angle of inclination depends on the height above the ground of the sensor. These sensors are connected in groups of 16, 32 or 64 to a micro-central control unit which in turn triggers the transmitter and receivers of each sensor according to an overall cycle not exceeding 1 second. Therefore, the detection only concerns the explored place, and this is checked every second.

Storing the information confirms the state of the space over 2 or 3 cycles and thus eliminates the simple passage of a vehicle without permanent occupation.

The final information is then sent on a frequency modulator which makes it possible to transmit the information from the micro-central, in series, on a coaxial bus working in frequency multiplexing towards a demodulation station. This transmission technique makes it possible to have information simultaneously from all of the micro-power stations equipping the car park, whatever their number, and thus ensures a management capacity making it possible to respond to the largest existing or future complexes. The capacity of a coaxial bus being, over average distances of 3 km of 7 ## micro-power stations, that is to say 224 ~~ sensors on average.

The demodulated information is, always simultaneously, available and explored in packets to be processed by a microcomputer. The software, adapted to the type of parking, makes it possible to highlight the address of the information transmitted and to record it. Therefore, it is possible to indicate on a screen, the sector or sectors, in a pre-established order, where places are available.

These screens, located at the "entrance" passages of the car park, allow the user to go directly to the free sector, where he visually identifies the free spaces by a light signaling of the sensors of these spaces (the sensors on occupied spaces being switched off ).

When all the places are occupied, the computer displays "Full" on the entrance displays.

The reaction time of the system is around 5 seconds, which is less than the time it takes for a vehicle to enter a parking lot (1 ~ 14 seconds).

The coupling of the "Full" signal blocks the barrier, the user on standby having to wait for the release of a space to enter the car park; this, being made free of a place, accelerates the rotations and appreciably increases the rate of return of the parking lot.

Apart from the dynamic management service of parking spaces, the system allows, due to the permanent exploration of each space, to control the presence of a vehicle over time. The software used allows you to enter a specific duration on a specific place. Therefore a user, reporting the number of the place (indicated on the ground) and the expected duration of his parking (day - week), is certain that his vehicle cannot be moved without setting off an alarm during this period.

The single board represents the entire system implemented in a car park. The sensor (1), above a free space, does not have the IR receiver t4) requested by the emitter t6) whose beam (8) is reflected at (9) the lamp (7) is powered permanently by the Central (12)
The sensor (2) is above a vehicle and the receiver t4) is requested by the reflection (9) of the beam (8) emitted by the transmitter (6), the lamp (7) of the sensor t2) is extinct.

The control unit (12) sends the "Free" information from the sensor (i) and the "Busy" information from the sensor (2) in frequency modulation to the Control unit (14). This frequency specific to the central (12) allows to know its geographical position in the parking lot, and the computer (15) can display on the screens (16) that a place (or X) is available in the Central sector. (12) (span H of the 3rd basement for example).

Similarly, if the owner of the vehicle (l ~) has indicated that his absence would be 2 weeks, during this period the computer (15) will constantly monitor the occupancy of the sensor space (2) of the control unit ( 12>. If the vehicle (l ~) were to be moved before the time limit, an alarm would be given by the control unit (14) audibly and visually, the parking exits would then be blocked.

This system is particularly suitable for medium and large capacity car parks, for city centers or airports, where saturation times are long. It allows on the one hand to fill ~~% the parking lot at its moments of saturation, on the other hand to reduce in a very important way, the time spent looking for a free place for the user.
