Abstract

The invention relates to methods for converting extruded expanded polystyrene by compacting the material using a heat source, reducing its volume and facilitating transportation, storage and handling. A method of cold conversion of the material obtained by the addition of solvent, producing a basic resin. A method of hot conversion of the material obtained, by the addition of fat and vegetable resin and by melting these products, results in a compound having the same appearance and the same properties as ivory.

Description

WASTE RECYCLING PROCESS
OF EXPANDED POLYSTYRSNE
The present invention relates to a method for recovering, recycling and transforming waste polystyrene, expanded, etched which often clutter the warehouses of department stores, construction sites, and which is sometimes found even on the beaches.

The collection (bulky and bulky waste), and the destruction of these non-biodegradable materials (release of Sazs and toxic and polluting substances) pose problems for the services of removal and destruction of industrial refuse and waste.

The atonal agency of Recovery and Elimination of Waste, announced a process of recycling of the expanded polystyrene by a method of mechanical grinding then the incorporation in compost and compost in order to lighten them. No other applications known to this agency have been reported.

The technical process used is as follows.

- Première phase : Collecte, tri, lavae, séchage. - First phase: Collection, sorting, washing, drying.

- Deuxième phase : Transformation mécanique et thermique. - Second phase: Mechanical and thermal transformation.

fusion de la matière sous l'action d'une source de chaleur (phénomène de liquéfaction passager puis de compactage : perte importante de volume).melting of the material under the action of a heat source (phenomenon of temporary liquefaction then of compaction: significant loss of volume).

Mechanical grinding of this solid and dense material (obtaining granules of various sizes depending on the characteristics of the grinding operations) facilitating storage and transport.

Transformation chimique à froid.Cold chemical transformation.

mixture of these finely mechanically ground granules, with a powerful solvent (toluene). This can be combined with various other solvents (petroleum distillate, essence of therebentine) or of vegetable origin (alcohol) in a minimum proportion of 30 G which gives a basic resin. Depending on the density of this resin, a range of products is obtained, the consistency of which ranges from liquid to paste. The materials obtained are
- Varnishes, glues, coating ~ permeable.

Liquid additives and colorants can be incorporated into these products.

Fillers can be added to the base resin.

- Sands and aggregates for the manufacture of plasters and products usable in the building (stone carpet).

- Glass fabrics, composite fibers, dyes, sawdust, plastic granule fillers that can be used in industry.

Hot transformation. The finely mechanically ground raw material is mixed with fatty products of animal or vegetable origin. The best results are with table oils. The fat used is mixed hot with 10 ç of pine resin. The whole is filtered hot in the liquid state. The mixture obtained is added to the ground raw material in proportions of the order of 15 and brought to a temperature of 200 to 2300 C. It is in the presence of a pearly liquid product, having the appearance of an oil thick, which can be easily poured into a mold. After cooling, this product can be removed from the mold without problems, and presents the appearance and characteristics of ivory.

Recycling of waste currently discarded and destroyed with harmful consequences for the environment.

Ces produits seraient ensuite diffusés par les canaux habituels en fonction des marchés visés (bricolages, bâtiment, industries chimiques et plastiques ammeublement, scultures).Creation of a collection activity, transformation by this process, then development of a range of derivative products. These products would then be distributed through the usual channels depending on the target markets (DIY, construction, chemical and plastic industries, furniture, sculptures).

The pretreatment operations and possibly the preliminary chemical transformation of the expanded polystyrene could be carried out by mobile means moved to the same collection site.
