Abstract

Device allowing a wheeled vehicle to be halted immediately. The invention relates to a device allowing the wheels to be locked whilst eliminating the skidding effect using a brake with shoes. The device represents a wheel rim or wheel exhibiting set-backs or reliefs on its perimeter, in which, during braking, the brake pads become housed. Then the pads will abut on the deepest part of the set-backs or on the possible reliefs, giving rise to blocking and thereby halting the vehicle. According to the invention, the device is particularly intended for children's bicycles travelling at low speed.

Description

 The invention represents a device comprising a rim and brake assembly allowing the braking of a child bicycle at low Sge by immediate blocking when the latter is traveling at low or moderate speed.

 Up to now, the current devices require a pressure force greater than 50 Newtons to immobilize the bicycle, which is not compatible with current safety standards. The new system, on the contrary, meets the requirements.

 The invention also aims to provide a system at low cost compared to more complicated devices therefore more expensive.

 Until now, bicycle brakes have been based on the principle of gripping by two jaws fitted with rubber or chipboard brake pads, allowing a gradual deceleration, because the pads slide on a rim whose walls are smooth, whereas the standards in force, claim a total judgment.

 The device according to the invention overcomes this drawback. It consists in using a rim or a wheel on which will appear, in addition to alternating flat and smooth parts, notches or excavations or reliefs of any kind, which can form a stopper for the brake pads during the braking action and this , already using a small force on the brake lever. Depending on the hardness of the pads used, the notches or changes in relief of the walls on the rim, could be more or less important and will be proportional to obtain the expected result.

 The invention will in any case be well understood in the additional description which only constitutes a preferred embodiment and cannot in any way be limiting.

 FIG. 1 represents a pad brake with its lever actuating a force on a rim or a wheel.

depending on the type of skates used.

For hard skates, the excavation will only be around 0.5 mm to arrive at around 1.5 mm at the end of the notch (8) whereas for softer skates, it will be necessary to plan for 3 to 5 mm about. During the braking operation, the pads will follow the shape of the excavations or reliefs.

 In fig. 2 is exposed a type of progressive excavation, but this embodiment is not limiting. The main thing is that the patirs arrive at a certain moment, to touch, while the wheels are rotating, the parts forming a stopper.

To do this, the recess could represent any geometric shape, the same is true for any reliefs affixed to the rim.

 The rim may include a more or less limited number of recesses or reliefs (9). During the tests, on a 250 mm diameter wheel, the number of 6 notches alternating with 6 smooth parts, gave a satisfactory result. Depending on the larger diameter, the number will be proportionally greater, also taking into account the size and material of the pads used.

Claims (1)

 Rim (2) or wheel allowing immediate braking of any vehicle requiring a dry stop, characterized in that it is provided on both sides of the periphery with notches (7) or reliefs (9) arranged alternately with parts smooth. In these excavations, during braking, the shoes of suitable shapes are housed, matching their shapes, and touching the parts forming the stopper. This will cause the vehicle to stop immediately.
