De manière usuelle, les plaques de ce type sont réalisées 'actuellement par gravure sur matériaux métalliques, synthétiques, en général thermoplastiques (Méthacrylique). Dans cette derniere hypothèse, on applique au dos des plaques une peinture constituant la couleur de fond de la plaque. Ensuite la plaque est gravée et on applique une peinture pour colorer la gravure puis une couche de finition, ce travail étant effectué par le graveur.
