Abstract

Use of micronised plants as adsorbent for the organic matter dissolved or in emulsion in water. Use of a type of micronised powder of treated plants ending with a product characterised by: - its particle size - its specific surface - its hemicellulose content - the degree of polymerisation of the cellulose of which it consists - its content of matter extracted from wood, such as lignin - its water content. The finished product thus exhibits a high adsorptivity for organic matter dissolved or in emulsion in water.

Description

DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION
Use of a certain type of micronized plant powder as an adsorbent for dissolved organic matter or as an emulsion in water.

Micronized plant powders do not normally have the characteristics allowing them to be used in mass transfer processes.

The powder for which a patent for use is sought is characterized by - its particle size less than 74 Fm - its developed surface greater than 1000 cm2 / g - its hemicellulose content zero after washing with a batten - the degree of polymerization of the cellulose which the compound less than 650 - its residual lignin content less than 5 X - its dryness which must be greater than 92 P - its solubility in strip must be zero.

For a material to be an adsorbent, it is not enough that it has a certain developed surface but that this developed surface has a certain energy allowing a good mass transfer from the liquid phase to the surface of the adsorbent, in particular by releasing micropores on its surface.

So that a micronized plant powder powder can have such characteristics, it must - it has a small particle size - it has a large specific surface - that this surface is microporous - that it can be suspended in batten - that it does not bring clean organic matter - that it is not soluble in water.

In order to obtain such a powder, it will be necessary to proceed as follows a - Pre-shred the plants, preferably the stems b - Pre-impregnate these plants with an ionic solution c - Submit these plants to a pressure of 35 bars or more and a temperature of 230OC or longer for at least 90 seconds before subjecting them to a sudden relaxation. This process is known as flash self-hydrolysis.

Cette opération rendra ce matériau extrêmement microporeux et en éliminera toutes les matières solubles dans l'eau rendant ainsi cette poudre, ultérieurement, insoluble dans l'eau.  d - wash the powder obtained with water and water / dioxane in order to eliminate hemi celluloses, most of the lignin, fatty and resin acids. This operation will make this material extremely microporous and remove all the water-soluble materials from it, thus making this powder subsequently insoluble in water.

Cette poudre séchée présentera une énergie de surface considérablement supérieure à celle de la même poudre mais humide.e - Powder drying to completely eliminate the water absorbed by the micropores. This dried powder will have a surface energy considerably higher than that of the same powder but moist.

The industrial applications are obvious in particular, the elimination of organic matter in solution in the effluents or in the process circuits of stationery, cardboard.
