Abstract

Method for decorating ophthalmic (optical) spectacles, sunglasses and sports goggles using liquid crystals. The invention relates to the construction of hollowed locations in the spectacles (glasses). It is carried out using milling cutters of a particular profile and these locations are filled with 3 layers of product 1, 2, 3. The particular feature is that the resin layer 3 serves as a seal for the system by virtue of the particular profile of the edge. The method according to the invention is particularly intended for decorating plastic spectacles (glasses).

Description

The present invention relates to a particular decoration method for plastic, optical, sunglasses and sports glasses, using the heat-sensitive properties of liquid crystals.

The decoration of glasses is always done in 2 ways
either by milling successive layers of colored plastic,
either by surface painting.

Both methods are limited by the possibilities of manufacturers of plastics or paints.

The method according to the invention makes it possible to obtain effects of changing colors as a function of the ambient temperatures independently of the colors of the materials.

This process means that a telescope has several locations of artistic forms, both on the foce and on the branches. These locations are milled with cutters having a particular profile, either in T, or in "dovetail".

The bottom of these locations is lined with a layer of opaque, black paint, then covered with a special mixture of cholesteric type liquid crystals.

Alternatively, glitter may be incorporated into these crystals.

Then the location is filled with an epoxy resin casting comprising a UV filter.

According to a variant, it is possible to incorporate, into this resin, pebbles.

The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention
Figure 1 shows in section the milled bezel part, with T-cutter, and the different layers.

FIG. 2 represents a varionte, part of the telescope being crumpled with a "dovetail" crimson.

Le procédé de décoration par cristaux liquides représenté sur la figure 1 comporte un système de fraisage en T. The liquid crystal decoration process shown in Figure 1 includes a T-milling system.

La profondeur P1 est de l'ordre de 1,8 mm, P2 de l'ordre de 0,8 mm, P3 d'environ 0,5 mm. The depth P1 is of the order of 1.8 mm, P2 of the order of 0.8 mm, P3 of about 0.5 mm.

La peinture noire (3) tapisse le fond. Black paint (3) lines the bottom.

We then have a mixture (4) of 5 boses of cholesteric liquid crystals, in order to achieve vivid color changes from morine blue, to turquoise blue, then to green and finally to pink for temperature changes of 10 degrees C The colors will take turns over a temperature range of - 10 degrees C. to + 40 degrees C.

The resin (5) is of the thermoformable type with incorporated UV filter and must fill the entire upper part, including the interval I1, in order to have a "plug" effect and making it impossible to tear off the layers (3) (4) ( 5).

In Figure 2, we see the same stack of layers with a so-called "dovetail" slate profile. The "plug" effect of the resin are just as effective.

The method according to the invention brings to the decoration of the glasses an original, attractive and constantly renewed sound effect of the play of colors.
