Abstract

Phototherapy device and method intended for the emission of light energy in the direction of the skin of a patient, with a view for example to phototherapeutic or photochemotherapeutic treatment of dermatoses. It comprises several tubes or groups of tubes 2, 4, 6, 8... for emitting radiation of different types (UVA, UVB, actinic rays, etc.), and it is fitted with means 10, 11 for programming the start time and duration of emission of each tube or each group of tubes during the same phototherapy session. It is thus possible to modulate the energy emitted, and its emission time, during a session, as a function of the total time programmed for that session.

Description

Dispositif et procédé de photothérapie. Phototherapy device and method.

The present invention relates to a phototherapy device intended for the emission of light energy in the direction of the skin of a patient, with a view for example to phototherapeutic or photochemotherapeutic treatment of dermatoses.

In a known manner, the treatments of this kind are carried out using a space which can have the form # 'a cabin inside which the patient is placed, the walls of the cabin comprising vertical emitting tubes distributing the energy all around and over the entire height of the patient. The conduct of treatment for a given condition is characterized by a succession of sessions, the spacing of which is determined, the amount of energy received by the patient during each session having to be precisely measured. , the cabins have one and the same type of radiation emitting tubes of a defined type: UVA, UVB, ..., the treatment consisting, at each session, in subjecting the patient either to a single determined type of radiation , for a predefined time, either at sequences of several radiations, or finally at sessions comprising several radiations.

The object of the phototherapy device of the invention is to allow the implementation of a phototherapy therapy which is entirely new, combining, using a single "cabin" and in the course of a single and same session, several different types of radiation applied successively or simultaneously. It is characterized in that it comprises several lamps, tubes or groups of lamps or radiation emission tubes of different types (UVA, UVB, actinic rays, etc.), and in that it is equipped with means for programming allowing precise determination of the start time and duration of emission of each tube or lamp, or group of tubes or lamps, during the same phototherapy session.

Thanks to the programming which makes it possible to modulate the emissions of the different wavelengths, it is thus possible to obtain the optimal therapeutic result, by eliminating or at least reducing the carcinogenic risk of ultraviolet rays, while dispensing a minimum of energy. . To this end, the invention also relates to a phototherapy process, characterized in that it consists in modulating the energy emitted, and its emission time during a session, as a function of the total time programmed for this session.

The invention will be better understood with the aid of the following description of an exemplary embodiment, with reference to the appended single figure, which is a very schematic representation of a device according to the invention.

In the figure, the reference I has designated the cabin, or other emissive space, inside which the patient will sit. Like all cabins of this type, it has on its walls vertical radiation tubes for phototherapy, but, according to one aspect of the invention, these tubes are not all identical, but have successively distributed around the periphery from the cabin
- a group 2 of two UVA radiation tubes supplied in parallel at 3,
- a group 4 of two UVB radiation tubes supplied in parallel at 5,
- a group 6 of two actinic ray tubes supplied in parallel at 7,
- again a group of two tubes 8 with UVA rays supplied in parallel at 9, and so on all around the cabin 1.

Furthermore, a microcomputer 10, or a microprocessor-based computer, or the like, connected to an interface 11 comprising in particular amplifiers and at least one relay per group 2,4,6,8 ..., of tubes allows the starting, during the same session, one or more groups of emission tubes of a first type of radiation, for example
UVA, for a first predetermined time, for example ten minutes, then starting one or more groups of emission tubes of a second type of radiation, for example UVB, for a second predetermined time, for example four minutes, then switching on one or more groups of emission tubes of a third type of ray, for example actinic rays, for a third predetermined time, for example six minutes, and so on, possibly up to at the end of the session, the session being entirely guided by the microcomputer 10 as a function of the pre-recorded program and selected by the operator using his keyboard 12.

A certain number of session programs thus variegated in rays and in time and radiation powers, defining an equal number of types of treatment, having been introduced into the memory of the microcomputer 10, the medical assistant no longer has, in function of the order of the specialist doctor defining the type of program to be applied for the session in question, than by typing the code of the program indicated on the keyboard 12 of the microcomputer 10.

The microcomputer 10 is therefore a calculating and controlling member, the use of which is greater than the simple calculation of the energy, the latter being used for controlling each session and adapting the energy emitted and the emission time of this energy the length of the session.

Like tubes, the emissive space can also be fitted with lamps producing all ultraviolet light. The selection of the different wavelengths is done, in this case, thanks to filters (allowing the application of UVA, UVB and actinic rays which are controlled by the microcomputer according to the program provided above.

An important advantage of the invention lies in the possibility of saving energy expenditure, by modulating the energy emitted during a session as a function of the total programmed time of this session. For example, an energy of 5 joules UVA which could be dispensed by the cabin normally in about 5 minutes, will be replaced by an energy of 3 joules dispensed in 9 minutes, the therapeutic result being equivalent, but the danger for the patient decreasing as much.
