Abstract

Description

The present invention relates to a

  improved padding for pillows.

  The characteristics of padding stuffing pillows are very important for a good sleep. At present, buckwheat bales are very widely used as top stuffing material because of its low cost and favorable hardness. But, after the buckwheat bale stuffing has been used for a prolonged period, bales of buckwheat can

  cover up with various germs and / or various molds.

  This results from their poor absorption of moisture and

perspiration.

  Other stuffing materials, such as "adzuki" seeds and soybeans, are also used. Adzuki seeds and soya beans are also advantageous in that they are inexpensive and have a favorable hardness. However, these seeds can

  to be eaten by worms after an extended period of time ..

  It has recently been proposed pillow pads made of synthetic resinous materials that are beneficial to health. However, padding of

  Synthetic resins lack the natural "feel".

  It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved pillow padding which has a more favorable hardness and is superior in terms of moisture absorption and perspiration,

and from the point of view of hygiene.

  Another object of the present invention is to provide a pillow padding whose fragrance allows a

  user to sleep a good sleep.

  Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a method of manufacturing such a pillow pad. The present invention provides a new and improved pillow padding comprising particles of

  each of which has a substantially spherical shape.

  The present invention also provides a method of making a new and improved pillow padding, which method comprises the steps of

  to cut a piece of wood chips pre-sized

  determined, and mechanically put said chips in the form of substantially spherical particles whose surface

is rough.

  The only figure attached is a sectional view of one of the particles used in a pillow pad

according to the present invention.

  This single figure represents one of the particles (1) having a substantially spherical shape. The particles are obtained by cutting a piece of wood, for example a piece of Japanese cypress (hinoki), or another wood, into square chips of predetermined size, for example about 4 mm 2, and then mechanically putting these chips squares in the form of substantially spherical particles of desired diameter (preferably about 3 to 4 mm). Each of the particles thus formed has a surface 2 which has a

  degree of roughness suitable for an end that will be described.

  The formation of spherical particles with a rough surface can be carried out using a suitable shaping machine, for example a sandpaper sanding machine comprising a rotating cage formed by a grid, having for example a mesh of about 2 mm, a rotating drum disposed within this rotating cage and rotatable counter to that of the cage, at high speed, and a sheet of sandpaper

  applied against the outer surface of the rotating drum.

  The wood chips that are cut in the aforementioned manner are projected into a work space between the rotating cage and the drum. During the rotation of the high-speed drum, the wood chips are rounded and roughened on their surface, and converted into rough-surfaced padding particles. Instead of sandpaper, other filing tools can be used to round and roughen square wood chips and

  turn them into spherical wood particles.

  In accordance with the present invention, the padding particles are preferably obtained from Japanese cypress or "hinoki" for a purpose to be described, but could be made of any other woody material. Since cypress from Japan is expensive as a building material, the present invention

  provides for the use of cypress debris from Japan.

  The Japanese cypress has a scent that exerts a mental stabilizing effect. When padding particles are formed from Japanese cypress chips, a pillow filled with such particles may allow a user to sleep well. In order to promote the emission of such a fragrance, the wood particles are

  roughened on their surface, as described above.

  Moreover, the emission of the perfume can be favored, when the pillow is actually used to support the weight of the head of the user, because of the friction of the particles

against each other.

  The cypress of Japan contains a substance that exerts a sterilizing and detoxifying effect. It is thus possible to prevent the pillow which contains particles of cypresses of Japan, to cover itself with various germs and various molds. In general, woody materials are superior in their moisture absorption and transpiration properties. Therefore, the pillow pad that is formed in accordance with the present invention has the effect of keeping the pillow dry. In addition, wood gives

pillows a favorable hardness.

  Although the present invention has been described essentially for padding of cypresses from Japan, it may employ any other woody material within the spirit and scope of the invention. In this case, after having been put in the form of particles, the ligneous material may be impregnated with an oily perfuming ingredient or with an essence extracted from the

cypress of Japan.

Claims (7)

  1. Pillow padding comprising particles of substantially spherical shape, said particles being   formed of a woody material and having a rough surface.   2. Pillow padding according to claim 1, characterized in that said particles are formed in   from cypress chips from Japan.   3. Pillow padding according to claim 1, characterized in that said particles are formed from wood chips other than cypress chips from Japan, and are impregnated with a fragrant essence extracted cypress of Japan.   4. A method of manufacturing a pillow padding, characterized in that it comprises the operations of cutting a piece of wood chips and mechanically put said chips in the form of particles of substantially spherical shape, the area is rough.   5. Method according to claim 4, characterized in   what said piece of wood is a piece of cypress of Japan.   6. Method according to claim 4, characterized in that said piece of wood is a piece of wood other than the cypress of Japan, and in that said particles formed from said wood other than the cypress of Japan are impregnated with fragrant essence extracted from Japanese cypress. 7. Method according to claim 4, characterized in that said chips are rounded and made rough to   using a sanding machine with sandpaper.
