Plusieurs techniques tendant à résoudre ce problème d'indexation sont actuellement connues. Several techniques for solving this indexing problem are currently known.
Certaines font essentiellement appel à des opérations manuelles: un opérateur lit une adresse postale et transcrit le code d'indexation correspondant par frappe de l'information sur un clavier. - pour un traitement manuel, elle est environ de 1000 à 2000 lettres par heure, pour un investissement de X francs (X étant pris comme valeur de référence);

Bien entendu, cette performance peut être améliorée car le nombre de 70 % est une valeur plutot pessimiste.
