The opposite ends of the arms are provided with corresponding elements in the form of flat handles which are parallel in operation, and on which is formed another groove extending longitudinally. The width of these grooves is greater than the diameter of the wire constituting the line, but less than the diameter of the pieces of lead which are attached to it.   The use of the instrument according to the invention is very easy and convenient.

  If the distance between the pieces of lead P is sufficient, one can use the part of the instrument formed by the ends 1a and 2a and called the front end. In this case, it suffices to insert the wire of the line L into the flared grooves 9 formed on the front end of the instrument carrying the piece of lead to be removed in contact with the face 6 opposite the pointed element 8 At this point, it is necessary to exert sufficient pressure so that the element 8 comes to penetrate the piece of lead like a corner and to open it, thus freeing the wire. If the distance between the pieces of lead is not sufficient to operate with the front end of the instrument, one can use the rear end of it, that is to say the part of the instrument constituted by the flat tongues 10 and 11, extending from the ends 1b and 2b. Similarly, the wire of line L is placed between the grooves 12 so that the piece of lead P to be removed is placed in the tongues 10 and 11. At this point, by exerting sufficient pressure, the piece of lead can be loosened, allowing it to slide along the rod of the fishing rod in the appropriate position to remove it by means of the front end of the instrument, as described above.   Advantageously, the arms 1 and 2 of the instrument according to the invention are of a shape allowing easy manipulation: in particular, the intermediate portion of the arms 1 and 2 has an enlarged part, substantially box-shaped, with a face wide plate 13, preferably knurled or coated with rubber for better grip, and on which a suitable pressure is applied with one hand without great effort. In order to lighten the structure of the instrument according to the invention, the intermediate widened parts of the arms 1 and 2 have internal recesses 14 for lightening. Preferably, the arms 1 and 2 are made of a molded plastic material, while the pointed element 8 and the tongues 10 and 11 are made of

  steel or any other suitable metallic material.

Instrument to remove excess ballast from a fishing rod line   having a plurality of pieces of lead attached to its end, CARAC-   TERISE IN THAT it comprises a pair of arms (1, 2) articulated together like pincers and a pointed element (8) extending perpendicularly from one end (la) of one of said arms towards the end corresponding (2a) of the other arm, each of said ends (la, 2a) having a front groove (9) extending longitudinally towards the base of said pointed element   (8), a pair of flat tabs (10, 11) being further located at the ends   opposite half (lb, 2b) of said arms (1,2), said tabs being parallel   sheets in operation and each being provided with a longitudinal front groove (12), the width of said grooves (9, 12) being greater than the diameter of the wire forming the line, but less than the diameter of the section of said pieces lead.   2. Instrument according to claim 1, wherein said arms (1, 2)   are articulated together elastically.   3. Instrument according to the preceding claims, wherein the element   pointed (8) has a conical end with an eccentric point aligned with the bottom of the front groove (9) formed at the end (la) of the arm   from which protrudes said pointed element (8).   4.
