Description

SELF-INFLATABLE LIFE BUOY
The invention relates to a self-inflating lifebuoy, in particular intended for water sports enthusiasts and in particular windsurfers.

The development of nautical sports is accompanied by more accidents, often due to the fact that amateurs venture more and more far from the coasts. Otherwise-; conventional life jackets are relatively bulky and hinder movement; they are therefore often overlooked by athletes. The invention provides an efficient, self-inflating and space-saving lifeline so that it can be worn permanently to deal with any eventuality.

More specifically, the invention therefore relates to a lifebuoy characterized in that an inflatable air chamber is arranged in the folded position along a belt carrying a bottle of compressed gas connected by a valve to said air chamber.

According to another important characteristic of the invention, said belt comprises a transverse fold which disappears during inflation of said air chamber to increase the perimeter of said belt and facilitate the ascent of the assembly under the armpits.

The aforementioned transverse fold can be materialized by pieces of fabric with claws and fabric with loops fixed to the belt. The texture of these fabrics is known; they are commercially available, in particular under the trademark "VELCRO". This type of attachment has the advantage of having excellent tensile strength in the longitudinal direction (parallel to the belt), while being capable of opening under the effect of a relatively weak force exerted in the radial direction. relative to the belt, that is to say possibly by the simple inflation effect of the air chamber. One can however imagine other simpler means to materialize the transverse fold, such as for example elastic rings.

- la figure 1 est une vue générale en perspective de la bouée de sauvetage non utilisée, c'est-à-dire à l'état de ceinture;
- la figure 2 est une vue en coupe transversale de la ceinture, la chambre à air étant dégonflée et logée dans ladite ceinture;
- la figure 3 est une vue analogue à la figure 2, montrant la chambre à air gonflée;

The invention will be better understood and other advantages thereof will appear better in the light of the following description of a currently preferred embodiment of a lifebuoy in accordance with its principle, given solely by way of illustration. example and made with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which
- Figure 1 is a general perspective view of the unused lifebuoy, that is to say in the belt state;
- Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view of the belt, the air chamber being deflated and housed in said belt;

Referring to the drawings, the lifebuoy according to the invention consists of a belt II along which is fixed an air chamber 12 with elastic, inflatable walls. The latter, in the non-inflated state, is housed in a sheath 13 of semi-rigid material comprising a longitudinal slot 14. When air under pressure is admitted into the air chamber, the latter expands by pushing back the walls of the sheath 13 on either side of the slot 14, as shown in FIG. 3. The belt has a transverse fold 15 located in the dorsal part of the latter and designed to disappear when the air chamber is inflated .

Pour cela, comme mentionné précédemment, le repli est matérialisé grâce à des pièces de tissu à griffes et de tissu à boucles 16a, 16b, fixées à la ceinture et coopérant mutuellement (voir figure 4).For this, as mentioned above, the fold is materialized by pieces of fabric with claws and fabric with loops 16a, 16b, fixed to the belt and cooperating with each other (see FIG. 4).

A small bottle of compressed air 18 is attached to the belt 11; it is immobilized in a gusset 19 thereof, located in the extension of the sheath 13. This bottle is connected to the air chamber by a valve 20 manually operable by means of a ring 21. As shown in Figures 5a and 5b, the ring 21 is attached to the plug 22 of the valve, while the box of said valve has a notch 23. The diameter of the ring 21 corresponds to the distance between its point of attachment to the plug 22 and said notch, so that it is blocked (FIG. 5a) in normal times, thus avoiding any accidental inflation of the air chamber. The belt also comprises several rings 26 for the attachment of various accessories (for example a whistle), and in particular for hanging a small container 27 containing a balloon 28 connected to a small bottle 29 of compressed gas less dense than air (for example helium) by means of a mechanism valve 30. The container 27 has a separable base 31, extended by u no safety clip 32 for fixing the assembly to a ring 26 of the belt 11. A nylon thread 33, housed in the container, is connected by one of its ends to the balloon 28 and by its other end to the base 31. The balloon is preferably brightly colored and its external surface includes areas 32 of fluorescent coating and / or metallized coating, to facilitate the location of the balloon, both visually and by radar.

When the user is in the water and in a critical situation, for whatever reason, it suffices to release and pull the ring 21 controlling the opening of the valve 20, which causes the inflation of the inner tube and, as explained above, increasing the perimeter of the belt by erasing the transverse fold 15.

This prevents the buoy from remaining attached to the belt, which would destabilize the user. On the contrary, thanks to the erasure of the transverse fold 15, the buoy rises automatically under the armpits to effectively support the user awaiting rescue.

The user can then open the container 27 to release the balloon 28 and actuate the valve mechanism 30 causing the balloon to rise above the water level, which increases his chances of being quickly located.
