Abstract

The present invention relates to a desk of the type comprising a backsplash forming the bearing face of the document to be read, inclined backwards and upwards to facilitate reading and a retaining bar disposed substantially perpendicular to the backsplash, along its edge. lower and intended to ensure the retention of the document to be read by serving as a stop at its lower edge.

 In presently known desks, to prevent the pages of a document with multiple sheets from being moved, or even turned, during reading by disturbing it considerably, for example by a draft, there are sometimes provided with swivel clips. the presence increases the cost of the desk and hinders the pivoting of the pages when it is wanted by the reader.

 Furthermore, when the document to be read consists of a plurality of sheets assembled in a binding, the overflow of the latter relative to the sheets moves them away from the retaining bar and if they are made of flexible material such as paper, this which is most often the case, the sheets occupying the free face of the document to be read tend to deform to bear, by their lower free corner, against the retaining bar and this deformation considerably hinders reading.

 The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks. For this purpose, in the console which it relates to and which is of the aforementioned type, there is provided, between the retaining bar and the lower edge of the backsplash, a groove of substantially U-shaped section, extending over the entire width of the backsplash, the width of which is at least equal to the thickness of a conventional binding and the depth of which is substantially equal to the length of the overflow of the lower edge of the binding with respect to the lower edge of the bound sheets of the document to be read.

Thus, when the binding is supported by its lower edge against the bottom of the groove, the sheets are supported by their lower edge against the retaining bar, thus avoiding being deformed. In addition, when the document to be read, composed of one or more sheets is not in a binding, it bears, by its lower edge, in the bottom of the groove and the anterior face of the latter keeps it pressed against the backsplash.

 In any case, the invention will be clearly understood with the aid of the description which follows, with reference to the appended schematic drawings showing, by way of nonlimiting example, an embodiment of this desk.

 As the drawings show, this desk is of the type comprising a backsplash (2) which must constitute the bearing face of a document to be read and which, therefore, is inclined from bottom to top and from front to back, and a retaining bar (3) disposed substantially perpendicular to the backsplash (2) along its lower edge and intended to serve as a stop for the lower edge of the document to be read.

 This backsplash (2) and its retaining bar (3) are supported by a base (9) which ensures their maintenance in the desired inclined position. In the example illustrated in FIG. 2, the desk in FIG. 1 supports a document to be read generally designated by the reference (4) and comprising a plurality of sheets (5) assembled using rings or the like (6) in the binding (7) of a filing cabinet.

 To allow easy reading of the sheets (5) of the document (4), in the desk according to the invention, there is provided, between the lower edge (2a) of the backrest (2) and the rear edge (3a) of the bar. support (3), a groove (8) of U-shaped section extending over the entire width of the backsplash (2). The width (1) of this groove (8) is at least equal to the thickness (e) of the binding (7), while its depth (p) is substantially equal to the length of overflow (d) of the lower edge (7a) of the binding (7) relative to the lower edge (5a) of the sheets (5).

 Thus, as shown in FIG. 2, when a document to read (4) is correctly installed on this desk, the lower edge (7a) of its binding (7) is in abutment against the bottom of the groove (8), and the sheets (5) are then in abutment against the retaining bar (3), which avoids their deformation and eliminates any risk of discomfort in their reading.

 It is easily understood that when the document to be read consists of one or more loose sheets (5) and therefore not assembled in a binding (7), the presence of the groove (8) can be used to ensure, by its anterior face (8a), maintaining the sheets (5) pressed against the backsplash (2), even in the presence of drafts tending to take them off. I1 suffices for this that each sheet (5) is engaged, by its lower edge (5a), in the groove (8).

 In the example illustrated in the drawing, the backsplash (2) and the bar (3) are obtained from a sheet metal sheet cut and folded gently, when folding, of the groove (8).

 As is obvious and as is clear from the above, the invention is not limited to the sole embodiment of this desk which has been described above by way of nonlimiting example; on the contrary, it embraces all of its variant embodiments.

- CLAIM  1. - Desk of the type comprising a backsplash (2) forming the bearing face of the document to be read (4), inclined from bottom to top and from front to back, to facilitate reading and a retaining bar (3) arranged substantially perpendicular to the backsplash (2) along its lower edge (2a) and intended to ensure the retention of the document to be read (4) by serving as a stop for its lower edge. characterized in that between the retaining bar (3) and the lower edge (2a) of the backsplash (2) there is provided a groove (8) of substantially U-shaped section, extending over the entire width of the backsplash (2 ) whose width (1) is at least equal to the thickness (e) of a conventional binding (7) and whose depth (p) is substantially equal to the width of the overflow (d) of the lower edge (7a) of the binding (7) relative to the lower edge (5a) of the bound sheets (5) of the document to be read (4).
