Abstract

The contraceptive device of the invention is characterised in that it is constituted by a plug 1 which is flexible, porous and solidly fixed to an elastic attachment ring 2 and is intended to be placed at the bottom of the vaginal cavity of a female animal, in contact with the neck of the uterus, the attachment ring 2 bearing on the endovaginal wall. The plug creates multiple channels of very long length which mechanically oppose the passage of spermatozoa to the neck of the uterus. This plug is advantageously constituted by a narrow-meshed mass made of polyethylene.

Description

ENDO-VAGINAL STEROMET FOR ANIMALS
Among the human contraceptive methods that are available is that of placing an IUD in the uterine cavity.

 There are many variations on <; the problem of maintaining a sterile device without causing injury or discomfort.

 But all known IUDs to date are adapted to the uterus of the woman whose dimensions and shapes are such that the IUD is entirely placed in the uterine cavity and that the device for maintaining the IUD still supports on the endo-uterine walls.

 Until now, it has not been possible to use the known principles of IUDs used in women to apply them, if necessary, to animal species whose births one wants to control and, in particular, the canine species, the horse species etc ...

 In fact, the genital system of these species is quite different from that of women, and no simple transposition has proved satisfactory.

 Therefore, until now, only unsafe methods such as repellents, oral hormonal contraceptives or injectable hormonal contraceptives, which are radical, dangerous and expensive, such as ovariectomy (removal of the ovaries) or the ligation of the uterine horns.

 It would be of great interest both for the owners of animals and for the animals themselves to be able to use an IUD because, as we know, it is a simple and inexpensive method of rever- perfect eligibility (the removal of the IUD is very easy in case of desired pregnancy) which does not present any disadvantage with regard to the health or the behavior of the subject and, finally, guts presents an excellent reliability.

 The present invention relates to an endovaginal coil for females of animal species whose uterine cavity has a shape and dimensions not conducive to the establishment of an endo-uterine IUD.

 An IUD according to the invention is characterized in that it consists of a porous flexible pad, integral with an elastic neck and intended to be placed in the bottom of the vaginal cavity of an animal female in contact with the cervix, the collar bearing on the endovaginal wall.

 According to an alternative embodiment, the stamp face inscribed by the flange is concave.

 Preferably, the flange has a flared shape towards the rear.

 According to one variant, the mass of the buffer has at least one axial internal cavity.

The invention will be better understood from the detailed description given below with reference to the accompanying drawing.

Of course, the description and the drawing are given only by way of indicative and nonlimiting example.

 Figure 1 is an external schematic view of an IUD according to the invention.

Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, it will be seen that an IUD according to the invention is constituted by a flexible and porous buffer 1 integral with an elastic collar 2.

 The buffer 1 may, advantageously, be made of a material especially mesies synthetic material such as polyethylene. The size of its stitches may vary according to their location in the pad and may go as far as the micro-mesh which gives the touch an impression of foam or "sponge" elastic easily compresible.

 The buffer can also be obtained differently, the important thing being not to oppose totally the passage of the sperm of the male, but to create multiple small passages of a very great length so that the spermatozoides are exhausted before being managed to cross the whole mass of the buffer.

 To further enhance this effect, it can be provided as shown in Figure 2 that the buffer has at least one axial internal cavity, and here two, respectively la and 15 which are intended to increase the quality of the obstacle between the sperm and the cervix by fragmenting the mass of the tampon and thus multiplying the fronts of mechanical obstacle.

 In Figure 2, we see that the side lc of the buffer 1 which is inscribed by the flange 2 is concave.

 This is intended for the penis of the male which thus finds a greater vaginal depth than if the tempon was completely cylindrical but, in addition, this concave shape joined to the flared shape of the flange 2 which extends substantially in a trunk shape of cone, is a guide for the penis which, in some species, is relatively sharp and could creep between the walls of the vagina and the tampon.

 In Figures 1 and 2, we see that the flange 2 has passages 2a which are intended for the transfer of the interior to the outside of various secretions or excretions utero-cervico vaginal.

 Indeed, if the collar was full or continuous, it would be quite opposed to this transfer which should take place through the buffer since the collar is intended to be applied by its periphery, according to a kind of bracing , against the endovaginal wall.

 Naturally, these passages may be of any other shape and any other provision including providing the collar in the form of several petals separated by slots.

 In Figure 3, we see how an IUD according to the invention is placed in the bottom of the vaginal cavity A of an animal, in contact with the cervix B, uterus C remaining completely free.

 The tampon being elastic, compresible and expandable, it can be placed in the bottom of the vagina A adapting very well to the physiology of a given subject.

 The collar 2, for its part, having a flared shape towards the back rests on the endovaginal walls by a slight arching and the whole of the IUD being flexible, nothing opposes contractions and natural movements.

 it is apparent from the above description that an IUD according to the invention is easy to put in place since it avoids having to pass the neck B to penetrate inside the uterus C and that it effectively opposes, by mechanical obstacles, the passage of the ejaculate to the neck B.

 The maintenance in place is even better than the buffer itself participates, by light friction to ac-cro- gges so that the flange 2 can be verysouple.

The mechanical force is then distributed over a very large area and therefore has a very small point value which results in the complete absence of discomfort or pain.

 Buffer 1 can be given a more or less tapered shape and smaller dimensions depending on the species involved.

 In particular, the tampon may be given a relatively pointed shape so that this end penetrates a little into the cervix B.

 FIG. 3 diagrammatically represents the physiology of a dog for which an IUD according to the invention is well adapted, but it goes without saying that other species may receive an IUD according to the invention,
