Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a device for the discontinuous aspiration and collection of biological liquids.
This device can for example be used to periodically perform the aspiration of phlegm in a patient in an intensive care unit and having undergone a tracheostomy. To carry out such an operation, a jar (2) made of glass or synthetic material with a capacity of several liters is generally used, as shown in FIG. 1 of the attached schematic drawing, into which two mouthpieces open, one of which (3 ) is connected to the vacuum source and the other (4) of which is connected to a tracheal suction tube by flexible tubes (5) and (6) respectively. The vacuum created periodically in the jar ensures the aspiration and collection in it of the tracheal mucus.
Each day the jar is changed, the jar from being used is emptied before being washed and sterilized for new use. This solution has many drawbacks:
- unsanitary nature of emptying and cleaning operations due to microbial concentration of jar contents and foul smells
- fragility of the jars
- congestion of autoclaves by jars and their accessories which is essential to sterilize
- handling of jars which are heavy and bulky
- presence of moving parts associated with the jars which are easily lost.
The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks
To this end, the device it relates to comprises two separate enclosures made of synthetic material and communicating with each other1, the first of which forming a vacuum cleaner is made of a rigid material, comprises at least three connection end pieces, the first of which arranged in the upper part and fitted with a bacterial filter is intended to be connected to the vacuum source by flexible tubing, the second of which also plugging in the upper part is intended to be connected by flexible tubing to the source of biological liquid, and the third of which opens into the lower part of the vacuum cleaner, also opens into the upper part of the second enclosure which forms a collector, a non-return valve being arranged between the vacuum cleaner and the collector so as to allow the passage of liquid only from the vacuum cleaner to the collector.
From a practical point of view, after connecting the various pipes, the operation of this device is as follows
The connection with the vacuum source creates a vacuum in the vacuum cleaner ensuring the suction of the biological liquid, that is to say mucus if it refers to the application indicated above, without risk of contamination of the vacuum circuit, given the presence of the bacterial filter. For the duration of this aspiration of the order of a dozen seconds, the phlegm is collected in the vacuum cleaner, the non-return valve ensuring its isolation from the collector. asepsis, it is possible, at the end of aspiration, to immerse the sampling tube in an antiseptic liquid
After cutting the vacuum, the non-return valve opens and allows the transfer of phlegm into the collector.
The two essential components of the device being used once, the disadvantages of traditional devices are avoided. Thus, in particular, there is no emptying, washing of the devices, no risk of door of the moving parts which are very expensive, no sterilization, and no risk of breakage of the devices during handling. , since these are made of synthetic material.
According to a first embodiment, the vacuum cleaner and the collector are constituted by two elements independent of each other. In this case, advantageously, the collector consists of a flexible, transparent and graduated pocket.
il est ainsi possible de visualiser le remplissage progressif du collecteur, de telle sorte que lorsque celui-ci est plein, il peut autre déconnecté de l'aspirateur et remplacé par un collecteur vide, avec conservation du mEme aspirateur, ce dernier pouvant être utilisé plus longtemps dans la mesure où le filtre bactérien ntes pas bouché. it is thus possible to visualize the progressive filling of the collector, so that when this one is full, it can further be disconnected from the vacuum cleaner and replaced by an empty collector, with conservation of the same vacuum cleaner, the latter being able to be used more a long time since the bacterial filter is not blocked.
Advantageously, the vacuum cleaner is made of transparent synthetic material and includes a level mark located below the vacuum and suction nozzles.
From a practical point of view, the operator must stop the suction when the liquid level reaches the mark on the vacuum cleaner, in order to avoid any deterioration of the bacterial filter.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the vacuum cleaner has two transverse notches allowing it to be fixed to a support using an elastic clamp.
According to another embodiment of the invention, the vacuum cleaner and the collector are combined in the same shell with two stages separated by a non-return valve.
In this case it is necessary to replace the two elements when the collector is full.
il est également possible de prévoir un collecteur réalisé en une matière rigide. it is also possible to provide a collector made of a rigid material.
According to another possibility, the vacuum cleaner or the collector comprises a bypass allowing the removal of biological fluid for analysis by a laboratory.
In any case, the invention will be clearly understood with the aid of the description which follows, with reference to the appended schematic drawing, representing, by way of nonlimiting example, an embodiment of this device.
Figure 2 is a side view during the suction period,
Figure 3 is a side view during periods of non-use.
The apparatus represented in the drawing comprises two enclosures (7) and (8), of which that (7) is constituted by a shell of rigid transparent synthetic material, and of which that (8) consists of a flexible pocket of transparent, synthetic material and having graduations (9) indicating its level of filling.
The shell (7) has an oblong shape, and has two notches (îo) projecting from its periphery, allowing it to be fixed to a support by means of an elastic clamp (12).
In the element (7) forming a vacuum cleaner open three nozzles, namely a first nozzle (13) opening at its upper part, equipped with a bacterial filter (14), on which is intended to be connected a tube (15) connected at the vacuum source of the establishment, a second nozzle (16) also opening at its upper part, intended to be connected to a flexible tube (17) for taking the sample of the biological liquid, and a third nozzle (18 ) leading to its lower part. Below the nozzle (i6), the body of the vacuum cleaner has a mark (19).
The nozzle (18) opening into the lower part of the vacuum cleaner (7), allows connection with the upper part of the manifold (8), with the interposition of a non-return valve (20).
The use of the device is as follows
- Attaching the vacuum cleaner (7) to the clamp (12), the notches (10) formed on the shell of the vacuum cleaner (7) facilitating this operation, and preventing any sliding of the vacuum cleaner relative to the clamp
- connection of the nozzle (13, 14) via the tube (15) with the vacuum source
- connection of the nozzle (16) by the tubing (17) with the suction probe
- creation of a vacuum inside the vacuum cleaner (7)
- connection of the tubing (17) with the tracheal tube
- aspiration of a dozen seconds
- collection of phlegm in the vacuum cleaner, as shown in Figure 2
- disconnection of the tubing (17) vis-à-vis the tracheal tube, and possible aspiration of an antiseptic liquid
- stop the vacuum inside the vacuum cleaner the non-return valve (20) no longer playing its role of isolation of the visaà collector; screw the vacuum cleaner, allows mucus and antiseptic liquid collected in the ace - pirator to flow into the collector (8).
During the suction operation, the liquid level inside the vacuum cleaner must not exceed the mark (19).
When the collector (8) is full, it must be disconnected from the vacuum cleaner (7), with which is associated a new empty collector (8). At the end of use, both the vacuum cleaner (7) and the collector (8) are discarded, which avoids cleaning and sterilization operations.
It is possible to associate either with the vacuum cleaner or the collector bypass tubing allowing the collection of biological fluid samples for analysis purposes.
As is apparent from the above, the invention brings a great improvement to the existing technique - by providing a device for the discontinuous aspiration and collection of biological liquids, of very simple use for medical personnel, fulfilling all the necessary aseptic conditions, and avoiding a maximum of unpleasant and dangerous manipulations such as emptying and cleaning of the collector.
As it goes without saying, the invention is not limited to the sole embodiment of this device nor to its sole application to the collection of phlegm, described above as examples, it embraces it, on the contrary all variant embodiments and applications. Thus, in particular that the collector could be made of a rigid material, that the vacuum cleaner and the collector could be combined in the same shell with two stages separated by a non-return valve, or that this device could be used for the suction of other liquids, such as ilang, without departing from the scope of the invention.
