Abstract

The spark ignition engine has a cylinder head with a hemispherical combustion chamber for each cylinder. Each chamber has a valve (2), the axis of which is perpendicular to the plane (P) passing through the centres of the cylinders. There is, in each chamber, another valve (3) with its axis sloping to this plane (P) and the axes of the two valves converge towards the cylinder axis (4). The valves are operated by an overhead camshaft (7) and rocker arms (9,10) to convey appropriate movement to them are mounted on parallel shafts (11,12).
