Abstract

The retractable barrier for preventing vehicles for travelling in a particular direction in a car park comprises an axis carrying a series of teeth which rotates inside a concrete channel formed in the ground. Each tooth consists of a massive lower part acting as a counterweight which causes the pointed upper part to normally project from the channel. Vehicles approaching in one direction cause the teeth to be safely depressed into the channel, allowing the vehicle to pass, whereas vehicles approaching from the other direction cannot depress the teeth, preventing passage of the vehicle.
