Abstract

The device for protecting the push-button release of a vehicle tailgate lock comprises a hollow body incorporating a skirt (4) along its lower edge which accommodates the door handle (5) formed in the edge of the tailgate. An externally directed cavity (3) contains a hole for the passage of the push-button (2) and surrounds the push-button with sufficient space to allow actuation using e.g. a thumb. The cavity is sufficiently deep to prevent accidental actuation of the push-button.

Description

Protector for rear door locks of motor vehicles.

The present invention relates to a protector for rear door locks of motor vehicles.

Some passenger vehicles have a rear door which gives access to a rear part and can be used, for example, to load packages. Near the edge of the door where the greenhouse is installed, there is a stamped area which can be used as a handle and which is combined with a pusher which acts on the lock to open the door.

The protector according to the invention is applicable to this type of doors and locks, and it is characterized in that it is constituted by a hollow and open carcass gu its posterior face of adaptation to the door, which comprises in the area which corresponds to the pusher, an orifice of dimensions similar to those of this pusher. This hole serves as a self-centering guide for mounting the protector around the lock pusher. On the outside, the orifice is enlarged into a cavity of sufficient dimensions to allow penetration of the fingers in order to act on the pusher and to prevent the pusher from being accidentally actuated at the time of an impact. The carcass comprises an adjustable skirt to the shape of the handle and to its dimensions, which means that the two parts have to be maneuvered simultaneously.

Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will emerge on reading the following description of an exemplary embodiment and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which FIG. 1 represents a front elevation view of the protector; 2 shows a sectional view of the protector connected to a door with a lock, which is shown in broken lines.

In the drawings in question, it can be seen that the hollow carcass, open on its rear face, is provided with an orifice 1 intended to give passage to the pusher 2 of the lock and with a large cavity 3 which makes it possible to easily operate the pusher and whose height is sufficient to protect this pusher against any impact which could accidentally open the door.

The protector has at its lower part the shape of a skirt 4 which adapts to the shape of the stamped part which constitutes the handle of the door 5. The orifices 6 are intended to give passage to the fixing screws.

Of course, various modifications can be made to the devices or methods which have just been described solely by way of non-limiting example, without departing from the scope of the invention.

Protector for locks on rear doors of motor vehicles, these locks being provided with an opening pusher combined with a stamped zone formed in the door, below this pusher and situated near the edge of the door, this zone stamped which can between used as a handle, characterized in that it is constituted by a hollow carcass and open on its rear face of adaptation to the door, qAi comprises in the zone which corresponds to the pusher (2) an orifice (1) of dimensions similar to those of this pusher, this orifice serving as a self-centering guide for mounting the protector around the pusher, the external cavity (3) having sufficient space for the introduction of the fingers in order to actuate the pusher and a height sufficient to prevent the latter from being actuated accidentally at the time of an impact, while the carcass comprises a skirt (4) adaptable to the shape of the handle and to its dimensions, which requires simultaneous maneuvering both parties.
