Abstract

The heat source for an electric convection heater has an enclosed electric resistance (1) and a diffuser (2) giving augmentation of the surface area exchanging heat with the air. The diffuser (2) starts as flat strip, then has slots machined at intervals along its length to further increase the available heat transfer area. The diffuser is then fitted to the resistance. The slotted diffuser strip is then cut between groups of slots to permit alternate groups of slots to be bent in opposite directions away from the vertical so as to span the greater part of the width of the convection heater enclosure, with the relative dimensions chosed to ensure mixing of hot and cold air in the region of the diffuser.

Description

HEATING BODY FOR ELECTRIC CONVECTOR
The subject of the invention is a heating body for an electric convector for heating a room.

The usual heating bodies for electric convectors include an armored resistance and - a diffuser making it possible to increase the exchange surface between the resistance and the air circulating by natural convection through the electric convector.

In order to further improve the exchange conditions, the heating body according to the invention is characterized in that before assembly with the resistance but after machining by lamination, the diffuser (2) retains a flat surface and without roughness both in the machined part (s) only in the non-persisted part (s).

The accompanying drawing shows schematically and by way of example an embodiment of the heating body according to the invention and a variant.

Figure 1 is a sectional view of the heater body mounted in an electric convector.

Figure 2 is a plan view of the diffuser.

FIG. 3 is a sectional view of the diffuser shown in FIG. 2.

Figure 4 is a sectional view of the diffuser mounted on the resistor.

Figure 5 is a sectional view of a convector comprising two heating bodies.

In the electric convector shown in Figure 1, the shielded resistor (I) is in the form of a cylinder of small diameter and great length.

The diffuser (2) is a metal plate wound around the armored resistor and fixed in (3) by welding, riveting or screwing, or any other method of fixing.

At least one of the free ends (4) of the plate is machined in the form of a "louver", that is to say that incisions are made which are spaced apart from each other by a certain pitch in the plate along a line located in the plane of the plate and substantially perpendicular to the axis of winding of the plate around the resistance. Each blade thus obtained is then raised so that a compromise is obtained between the effectiveness of the heat exchange between the plate and the air and the pressure losses of the air which enters the device according to the arrow (5) and - leaves it according to the arrow
In the convector shown in Figure 1 the air passing over the resistance or near it is at a temperature significantly higher than the temperature of the air flowing further from it.

As shown in Figure 5, we can be brought to put two resistors in the same device and then we get two lines of air hotter than the rest of the air.

In this case, the arrangement of the resistors and the diffuser makes it possible to obtain an improvement in the uniformity of the outlet air temperature.
There is shown in Figure 2 a top view of the diffuser before it is wound around the resistor and in Figure 3 a sectional view of the same diffuser.

The diffuser (2) has the particularity of having fins (8) bent at right angles to the plane of the diffuser, the fins (8) on one side being offset in the direction of the winding axis xx ' half a step from the fins (9).

FIG. 4 shows the resistance provided with its diffuser.

The diffuser (10) is wrapped around the resistor (il) so that the fins (12) and (13) are opposite when the two halves of the diffuser meet along the plane y y '.

The angle of the folding between the planes y y and z z ′ results from the installation in the device of two diffusers so that the conditions described below are fulfilled.

As shown in section in FIG. 5, a convector provided with two heating bodies makes it possible to obtain a particularly advantageous arrangement when the ends (14) and (15) of the diffusers (16) and (17) meet or almost meet, such so that little or no air can pass between them.

The distance between the resistor (18) and the wall (19) on the one hand and the distance between the resistor (20) and the wall (21) on the other hand make it possible to vary the amount of air not passing through the -through two diffusers (16) and (17), air which mixes with the air passing over the resistors and the part of the diffuser closest to the resistances which is the warmest gives a temperature of air close to the air temperatures which, after passing over the diffusers (16) and (17), constitutes the center of the outlet air stream.
