Description

La présente invention concerne le soudage par ultra-sons de films ou pellicules thermoplastiques. On sait (figure 1) que la technique du soudage par ultra-sons de matériaux thermoplastiques comporte l'application d'une sonotrode 1 vibrant à une fréquence ultrasonique (20 à 40 Mtz), perpendiculairement aux matériaux à assembler.
Dans le cas d'une application au soudage de films plastiques, comme illustré sur la figure I, les deux feuilles à souder 2,3 sont disposées entre une enclume rigide 4 et la sonotrode vibrante 1. Cette dernière est appliquée avec une certaine pression P sur les deux films. L'énergie vibratoire d'amplitude A, transmise par la sonotrode est absorbée par les deux films 2 et 3, pincés entre la sonotrode et l'enclume. Il en résulte un dégagement de chaleur intense qui provoque la fusion des portions superposées des films plastiques et produit ainsi la soudure.
Cette technique connue implique que la sonotrode soit appliquée perpendiculairement aux films à souder. La sonotrode 1 vibre longitudinalement et l'amplitude A est perpendiculaire aux films à souder.
Ce procédé présente l'avantage de la simplicite étant donné qu'il peut etre mis en oeuvre à l'aide de n'importe quelle machine à souder par ultra-sons disponible dans le commerce. Cependant, ce procédé n'est pas applicable au soudage de certaines matières plastiques, notamment aux matières trop dures (telles que 1 polyesters) qui transmettent toute l'énergie mécanique à l'enclume, ainsi qu'aux matières dont la structure d'orientation moléculaire ne se prête pas à ce procédé (il s'agit notamment du polyéthylène utilisé pour l'emballage).
La présente invention se propose d'apporter un procédé pouvant titre utilisé pour le soudage de tous les types de matières plastiques.
Le procédé de soudage par ultra-sons de films plastiques selon 11 invention est caractérisé en ce qu'on applique aux films à souder, une vibration parallèle aux films à souder, la pression étant appliquée perpendiculairement au plan des deux films.
L'invention vise également un dispositif permettant de réaliser la soudure en continu de films thermoplastiques. Ge dispositif est caractérisé en ce. qu'il comporte au moins une sonotrode cylindrique comportant un relief approprié déterminant une largeur de soudure ; une tête à souder entraînée en rotation par un moteur à vitesse contrôlée et recevant ladite sonotrode et une enclume homocynétique disposée en regard de ladite sonotrode, les films à souder, avançant en continu étant pincés entre les deux éléments tournants (sonotrode et enclume).
D'autres caractéristiques et avantages de cette invention ressortiront de la description faite ci-après en référence au dessin annexé qui en illustre des exemples de réalisation dépourvus de tout caractère limitatif. Sur le dessin

On se réfère en premier lieu à la figure 2 qui illustre le procédé selon l'invention de soudage de films de matière thermoplastique par l'utilisation de vibrations horizontales.
Sur cette figure on voit en 1' la sonotrode vibrant longitudinalement qui est appliquée parallèlement aux deux films à souder 2' - 3' appuyés sur une enclume 4'. La vibration V est parallèle au plan des deux films 2' - 3'. La pression P est appliquée perpendiculairement au plan des deux feuilles à assembler, la vibration étant parallèle à ce plan. De préférence la partie R de la sonotrode appliquée sur les deux films est munie d' un relief.
Ce procédé de soudage par vibration horizontale apporte notamment les avantages suivants par rapport à la technique antérieure, illustrée par la figure 1, de soudage par vibration verticale
- qualité de la soudure nettement supérieure à celle des sou
dures obtenues par un procédé classique
- réalisation beaucoup plus rapide de la soudure.
On se réfère maintenant à la figure 3 qui représente schématiquement en perspective une installation selon l'invention pour réaliser le soudage en continu de deux films de matière thermoplastique. L'application illustrée à titre d'exemple non limitatif vise la réalisation de pochettes isolantes 16 d'éléments actifs de batteries.
Dans cet exemple de réalisation on utilise des sonotrodes cylindriques 10 - 101 comportant un relief approprié déterminant une largeur de soudure. Chaque sonotrode, du type à disque, est montée sur une tête à ultra-sons 12 - 12' respectivement. Naturellement on peut, sans sortir du cadre de l'invention, utiliser des sonotrodes normales au lieu des sonotrodes à disques. Chaque tête à souder ainsi réalisée (sonotrode 4 tête ultra-sons) est entraînée en rotation par un moteur à vitesse contrôlée. En regard de chaque sonotrode tournante 10, 10' on dispose une enclume rotative homocynétique 14, 14' respectivement, de façon que les deux films à souder 2', 3' passent entre les sonotrodes et les enclumes, comme on peut le voir sur le dessin.
Une pression relative est appliquée entre chaque sonotrode et l'enclume correspondante. Les films à souder se déplaçant en continu selon la flèche F, et étant pincés entre les deux éléments en rotatif (sonotrode - enclume), on réalise une soudure en continu.
La figure 4 montre; à plus grande échelle la disposition relative des films à souder et des éléments tournants (sonotrode 10 et enclume 14) et la façon selon laquelle est réalisée la soudure des films 2', 3'.
Sur les figures 6 et 7 on a donné deux exemples non limitatif de reliefs ménagés sur les sonotrodes et sur les enclumes rota tives.
Les applications du procédé et du dispositif selon cette invention sont multiples notamment dans l'industrie de l'embal- lage, la soudure de films polyester et d'une façon générale de tous les matériaux thermoplastiques qui ne sont pas soudables par la mise en oeuvre du procédé classique de soudage par vibration perpendiculaire aux surfaces à souder.
il demeure bien entendu que cette invention n'est pas limitée aux exemples de mise en oeuvre et d'application décrits ici, mais qu'elle en englobe toutes les variantes. Ainsi la figure 4 représente une électrode cylindrique classique munie d'un relief à son extrémité, pour produire une soudure en continu.

Claims (4)

REV##Ni)ICATIONS
1.- Procédé de soudage par ultra-sons de films plastiques disposés entre une enclume et une sonotrode vibrante, caractérisé en ce qu'on applique aux films à souder (2', 3'), une vibration parallèle à ces derniers, la pression étant appliquée perpendiculairement au plan des deux films.
2.- Dispositif permettant de réaliser la soudure en continu de films thermoplastiques, mettant en oeuvre le procédé selon la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce qu'il comprend : au moins une sonotrode cylindrique (10 - 10') comportant un relief approprié déterminant une largeur de soudure ; un moteur à vitesse contrôlée entraînant en rotation ladite sonotrode et, une enclume homocynétique (14 - 14'), disposée en regard de ladite sonotrode, les films à souder (2', 3') avançant en continu étant pincés entre les deux éléments en rotation (sonotrode et enclume) et une pression relative étant appliquée entre chaque sonotrode et chaque enclume.
3. - Dispositif selon la revendication 2, caractérisé en ce que ladite sonotrode ( 10 - 10') est du type à disque et elle est montée à l'extrémité d'une tête ultra-sons (12 - 12') entratnée en rotation par ledit moteur à vitesse contrôlée.
4.- Dispositif selon la revendication 2, caractérisé en ce que ladite sonotrode est une sonotrode cylindrique classique,
comportant à son extrémité un relief approprié pour produire une
soudure en continu.
