Description
La présente invention concerne un additif lubrifiant pour des disques
d'information à haute densité. Plus particulièrement
cette invention est relative à de nouveaux bis (hydroxyalkyl) disi-
loxanes qui améliorent les qualités de reproduction des disques contenant de l'information à haute densité.
Le brevet américain no 3 842 194 décrit un système pour enre-
gistrer et reproduire par voie capacitive des informations notam-
ment audio, vidéo et en couleur. Le disque d'information à haute
densité possède des informations de signal sous la forme d'un ré-
seau ou configuration de relief de surface dans une piste d'infor-
mation, par exemple un sillon en spirale, sur la surface d'un
disque. Le disque est rendu conducteur à l'aide d'une couche métal-
lique qui agit comme une première électrode d'un condensateur, et qui est recouverte d'une couche diélectrique. La lecture ou la
restitution de l'enregistrement est obtenue au moyen d'une élec-
trode-style, qui constitue la seconde électrode du condensateur.
Le brevet américain no 3 833 408 décrit un lubrifiant à base de
méthyl.alkylsiloxane pouvant être utilisé pour un disque, le lu-
brifiant diminue le frottement entre le disque et le style ce qui
entraîne une réduction de l'usure du style.
Parmi IWaméliorations faites à ce système depuis sa mise au point initiale, on peut citer celle qui consiste à réaliser un
disque à partir d'un matériau plastique conducteur obtenu par ad-
dition de particules de noir de carbone conducteur dans une ma-
trice de chlorure de polyvinyle. On élimine ainsi la nécessité de
séparer les couches métalliques et de diélectrique sur le disque.
Le lubrifiant a été également amélioré en choisissant un matériau à base de méthyl ethyl siloxane purifié et fractionné. Cette
technique est décrite dans le brevet américain n0 4 275 101.
Ce matériau répond à la formule ci-après

et y est un nombre entier compris entre O et 2, avec x + y 4 4.
Le lubrifiant perfectionné ainsi obtenu présente une meilleurs stabilité à long terme et assure des performances de première
lecture améliorées.
L'un des problèmes que pose1tlîm disques mentionnés ci-dessus
réside en une sensibilité à la dégradation en présence de l'eau.
Lorsqu'un disque enchlorure de polyvinyle chargé au carbone est stocké ou est traité dans une ambiance chaude et humide,une mince couche de matières solides, comprenant des sels organiques et
inorganiques, se forme sur la surface du disque, provenant proba-
blement de la présence de différents additifs incompatibles et de produits de dégradation apparaissant à la surface. Lorsque des
gouttelettes d'eau se déposent sur la surface, ces sels sont dis-
souts dans les gouttelettes. Lorsque l'eau s'évapore, il demeure
un nodule de sel qui interfère avec la lecture de l'enregistre-
ment. Lorsque le style atteint un tel dépôt, il doit passer par
dessus, ce qui interrompt la lecture de l'enregistrement et en-
traîne une perte de signal. Dans des cas extrêmes, le style se
bloque dans la piste contenant l'information ou "saute" un cer-
tain nombre de pistes d'information. Ces phénomènes sont connus sous le nom de'1éformation de porteuse", cette déformation étant
mesurée en secondes de durée de lecture pendant laquelle l'infor-
mation de signal est perdue. On a pu résoudre partiellement ce problème en nettoyant les disques après moulage ce qui élimine
les matériaux sur la surface. Cependant, avec le temps, des ma-
rières additionnelles resurgissent à la surface ou se forment sur la surface par suite de réactions, d'oxydations et similaire, et la déformation de porteuse réapparaît, notamment après plusieurs
cycles de dépôt d'eau et de séchage de la surface du disque.
La Demanderesse a découvert des bis (hydroxyalkyl) disi-
loxanes, qui sont en eux-mêmes des lubrifiants et qui, lorsqu'ils sont ajoutés aux lubrifiants connus de disque en tant que dopant, diminuent la déformation de porteuse sans effet nuisible sur les performances de lecture d'enregistrement ni sur la stabilité à
long terme de la surface des disques d'information à haute densité.
Les composés bis (hydroxyalkyl) disiloxanes selon la présente invention répondent à la formule suivante

bis (hydroxyalkyl) disiloxanes doivent être employés comme addi-
tif lubrifiant pour des disques vidéo à haute information, les additifs doivent être liquides. Des mélanges des composés ci-dessus dans lesquels les groupes alkyl possèdent des longueurs de chaîne qui varient, sont également utiles, en prévoyant encore que le mélange soit liquide lorsqu'on l'utilise comme additif pour des
lubrifiants pour disques vidéo, à base de methyl alkyl siloxanes.
Les bis (hydroxyalkyl) disiloxanes selon l'invention peuvent être obtenus selon les étapes ci-après, conformément à un procédé connu décrit par Eaborn, Organosilicon Compounds, Butterworths Scientific Publications, Londres, 1960, pages 299 et 304; enoth et al, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 80, 1958, P. 4106; and Bazant et al, Organosilicon Compounds, Academic Press, New York, 1965, P. 260 (1) on a mis à réagir un diclMorodialkylsilane avec un oxyde d'éthylène hétérocyclique, tel que le tétrahydrofurane selon la réaction: R1R2SiCl2 + CH2CH2CH2-CH2 -o R1R2S"i-o-(CH2)4C QO Cl (2) le produit de la réaction (1) a été chauffé en présence d'un métal alcalin (Me), tel que le lithium, le potassium ou le sodium, ou un métal de terre alcaline tel que le magnésium afin de former le 1-Oxa-2-silacycloalkane. correspondant selon la réaction Me R1R2Si-O-(CH2)4Cl It R1R2Si - (CH2)4 + 2MeCl Cl 3o (3) le produit de la réaction (2) a été hydrolysé en présence d'un catalyseur acide tel que HCl afin de former le composé bis (hydroxyalkyl) disiloxane désiré selon l'équation:

les significations indiquées ci-dessus.
Le bis (hydroxyalkyl) disiloxane produit peut être purifié de manière à pouvoir être utilisé comme additif pour le lubrifiant
pour des disques vidéo, par distillation, de préférence distil-
lation moléculaire en recueillant le distillat à une température de l'ordre de 100 C. Le distillat contient les composants les plus volatils tels que HC1l, les oxasilocycloalkanes n'ayant pas réagi
et autres sous-produits et impuretés.
Les composés décrits ci-dessus peuvent être ajoutés au lubri-
fiant préféré pour disque vidéo à base de méthyl alkyl siloxane, selon des quantités variées. On n'obtient généralement pas d'effet en ajoutant des quantités inférieures à environ 5% en poids par rapport au lubrifiant méthyl ethyl siloxane et on préfère ajouter des quantités d'additifs de l'ordre de 10 à 20% en poids. Cependant on peut utiliser des quantités plus importantes, pouvant aller
jusqu'à 70% en poids par rapport au lubrifiant methyl alkyl silo-
xane. Les composés selon l'invention sont des lubrifiants du type lubrifiant de séparation alors que les lubrifiants à base de methyl alkyl siloxane selon la technique antérieure sont en premier lieu des lubrifiants hydrodynamiques. En présence de grandes quantités de sels ou d'autres débris, par exemple des particules de poussière, sur la surface du disque, le lubrifiant à base de méthyl alkyl siloxane se sépare de la surface du disque. L'addition des bis (hydroxyalkyl) disiloxanes selon la présente invention améliore
l'aptitude du système lubrifiant à lubrifier la surface du disque.
Les bis (hydroxyalkyl) disiloxanes selon l'invention sont solubles dans les lubrifiants à base de méthyl alkyl siloxane décrits dans le brevet américain n 4 275 101 mentionné ci-dessus et ils peuvent donc être facilement appliqués ensemble soit par pulvérisation à partir d'un solvant ou par évaporation ou encore par application directe. Les disiloxanes sont insolubles dans l'eau et, par conséquent, la présence d'eau dans l'atmosphère ne les affecte pas. Les bis (hydroxyalkyl) disiloxanes ont une faible volatilité si bien qu'ils ne s'évaporent pas de la surface du
disque avec le temps. Ils ne sont pas inflammables et ils pré-
sentent un point de fusion très bas, c'est-à-dire inférieur à
- 25 C environ, si bien qu'ils ne se solidifient pas sur la sur-
face du-disque. Ils présentent en outre une faible tension super-
ficielle si bien qu'ils mouillent de façon uniforme la surface
très irrégulière d'un disque.
L'invention sera maintenant décrite en détail dans les exem-
ples suivants qui n'ont bien entendu aucun caractère limitatif.
Dans ces exemples les pourcentages, sauf indication contraire, sont exprimés en poids.
La durée de déformation de porteuse a été mesurée en ajou-
tant le temps en secondes (mais en décomptant les intervalles inférieurs à environ 10 /u sec) pendant la lecture du disque, lorsque la sortie de bande du bras de lecture est inférieure à 150 millivolts crête à crête, et le temps lorsque la fréquence de
sortie de bande est supérieure à environ 8,6 megahertz ou infé-
rieure à 3,1 megahertz, ce qui indique la présence d'un défaut.
De tels défauts sont décelés par l'observateur sous la forme de chute de signaux. Le niveau actuel acceptable de déformation de porteuse pour un disque vidéo est de 3 secondes pour une heure de
durée de lecture.
EXEIMPLE 1
Partie A - Préparation du méthyl decyl dichlorosilane 2,25 parties de méthyl dichlorosilane, 4,04 parties de 1-decene et une solution contenant environ 0,0005 partie d'un catalyseur acide chloroplatinique dans 0,006 parties de 2-propanol ont été chargées dans une enceinte de réaction et chauffées à une
température de l'ordre de 100 à 1200C pendant six heures. Le pro-
duit a été distillé sous vide à une température de 110 à 1140C et une pression de 1 à 3 Torr. On a obtenu 4,7 parties (rendement
94%) de méthyl-decyl dichlorosilane.
Partie B - Préparation de 2,2 - methyl decyl-1-oxa-2-silacydohexane Le produit provenant de la partie A a été introduit dans une enceinte de réaction avec 6,4 parties de tétrahydrofurane, 0,454 partie de magnésium, 0,078 partie d'iodure de methyl et 0,0015 partie d'iode. Le mélange a été chauffé à reflux à 850C pendant
24 heures.
Le mélange réactionnel a été transféré à un enceinte de sépa-
ration et on a ajouté Il parties d'eau pour dissoudre le sous-
produit de chlorure de magnésium. La partie organique a été re-
cueillie, les parties volatiles en ont été éliminées à l'aide d'un évaporateur rotatif à 800C et sous une pression de 10 Torr environ pendant une heure, la partie restante a été distillée avec environ 0,002 partie de KOH à une température de l'ordre de

C et sous une pression de 2 Torr pendant 6 heures et elle a
été finalement purifiée par distillation fractionnée à une pres-
sion de 1 Torr, la fraction provenant de cette distillation a été
recueillie à une température de 130 à 140 C.
On a obtenu du 2,2-méthyl decyl-1-oxa-2-silacyclohexane avec
un rendement de 63,8% (3,2 parties).
Partie C - Préparation de 1,3-bis(4-hydroxybutyl)-1,3-dimethyl-
dodecyldisiloxane Le produit de la partie B a été hydrolysé avec 7,2 parties d'eau dans 3,2 parties de tétrahydrofurane par reflux pendant 16 heures environ. Une petite quantité de HC1 (0,0014 partie) a été ajoutée comme catalyseur et on a ajouté à la fin 0,0065 partie de
triethylamine pour neutraliser l'acide et éteindre les réactions.
Les couches organiques et aqueuses ont été séparées.
La phase organique a été purifiée par élimination sous vide
à 90 C et une pression de 2 Torr pendant I heure.
On a ensuite distillé moléculairement le produit à une tempé-
rature de 10000 C sous une pression de 10 3 Torr et on a recueilli
le distillat. Le rendement total a été de 2,9 parties (60%).
La structure a été vérifiée et contrôlée par analyse élémen-
taire, par infra-rouge au spectroscope d'absorption, par chromato-
par penetratioh de ge ou graphie/en phase gazeuse et par spectroscopie de masse. Tous ces
contrôles ont confirmé que le poids moléculaire était 530.
L'analyse élémentaire a donné: pour C: valeur théorique 67192; valeur trouvée 68,39 pour H: valeur théorique 12,45; valeur trouvre 12,56 pour Si: valeur théorique 10,56; valeur trouvée 10,42 On a détecté 20 ppm de N et 50 ppm de chlore. On a découvert
des traces de Mg et de Fe (total 10 ppm) au spectroscope d'émis-
sion.
Le produit obtenu se présentait sous la forme d'un liquide
ayant une tension superficielle de 28 dynes/cm à 25 C; une gra-
vité spécifique de 0,89 gramme par millilitre à 25 C; un indice de réfraction de 1,46l et une viscosité de 150 5 centipoises à 25 C. Il ne se volatise pas après stockage pendant 24 heures sous un vide de 10 -6 torr à 22 C, ou après un stockage de 24 heures
à 38 C et sous la pression atmosphérique. Il ne se produit ni poly-
mérisation ni hydrolyse dans les conditions ambiantes. Le point de congélation est situé en dessous de - 25 et le point éclair est

supérieur à 150C. Le produit est totalement soluble dans l'hep-
tane et dans le méthyl alkyl siloxane répondant à la formule sui-
vante:CH (CH 3)3SiO - (SiO)n - Si(CH3)3 Ce OH21 qui est le produit de la distillation moléculaire à 2050C. Il est
insoluble dans l'eau.
Partie D - Application aux disques contenant de l'information d haute densité Le disiloxane tel que préparé dans les parties A à C, a été dissous dans l'heptane sous la forme d'une solution à 0,06% puis pulvérisé sur des disques vidéo conducteurs qui sont décrits dans le brevet américain n0 4 228 050. Les disques présentaient de
bonnes propriétés de lecture initiales avec un domaine de défor-
mation de porteuse moyenne de l'ordre de O à 0,5 sec en 30 minutes
de lecture.
Les disques ont été soumis à des contraintes en les plaçant dans une chambre maintenue à 95% d'humidité relative et à 380C pendant une heure. Les disques ont ensuite montré des niveaux de déformation de porteuse de moins d'une seconde en 30 minutes de lecture.
Des lectures répétées ont entraîné une certaine redistribu-
tion du lubrifiant sur la surface du disque.
EXEMPLE 2
Le disiloxane tel que préparé dans l'exemple 1, parties A à C a été dissous dans l'heptane pour obtenir une solution à 0,06 % en poids et mélangé à une solution à 0,06% du lubrifiant au méthyl alkyl siloxane purifié, tel que décrit ci-dessus, dans de l'heptane selon un rapport lubrifiant/dopant de 80: 20. Cette solution a été pulvérisée sur 12 disques vidéo. Lors de la lecture initiale, huit disques présentaient des niveaux de déformation de porteuse
de moins de 0,3 seconde, 3 disques avaient des niveaux de défor-
mation de porteuse de 0,4 à 1 seconde et 1 disque présentait une
déformation de porteuse située entre 1,1 et 3 secondes.
Après mise sous contrainte comme dans l'exemple 1, partie D, 9 disques présentaient une déformation de porteuse inférieure à 1 seconde, 2 disques avaient une déformation de porteuse située entre 1 à 3 secondes et 1 disque présentait une déformation de
porteuse située entre 3 et 10 secondes.
On a comparé ces disques à une série similaire de 12 disques
lubrifiés avec le lubrifiant à base de methyl alkyl siloxane puri-
fié seul. Lors de la lecture initiale, 8 disques présentaient une déformation de porteuse inférieure à 0,3 seconde, 2 disques avaient
des niveaux de déformation de porteuse situés dans une gamme com-
prise entre 0,4 et 1 seconde, 1 disque avait une déformation de porteuse située entre 1,1 et 3 secondes et 1 disque présentait
une déformation de porteuse comprise entre 3,1 et 10 secondes.
Cependant après contrainte de condensation, 5 disques seule-
ment présentaient une déformation de porteuse située entre O et 1
seconde, 1 disque avait une déformation de porteuse de 1 à 3 se-
condes, 4 disques avaient une déformation de porteuse comprise entre 3 et 10 secondes, 1 disque avait une déformation de porteuse comprise entre 10 et 30 secondes et 1 disque avait une déformation
de porteuse supérieure à 100 secondes.
Il résulte de ce qui précède que le lubrifiant à base de
méthyl alkyl siloxane contenant l'additif bis (hydroxyalkyl) disi-
loxane, réduit sensiblement le niveau de la déformation de jpor-
teuse lors de la lecture initiale et réduit fortement cette défor-
mation après contrainte de condensation.
EXEMPLE 3
On a répété le procédé selon l'exemple 2, sur une autre série de disques vidéo. par lots de 6 disques, chacun de ces disques a été nettoyé dans une solution diluée de Shipley, selon le procédé décrit dans la demande de brevet américain Nyman et al, n0 91 878
du 7 novembre 1979, puis séché dans du 1,1,2-trifluoro-2,2,1-tri-
chloroethane conformément au procédé décrit dans la demande de
brevet américain Nyman et al, n0 165 977 déposée le 7 Juillet 1980.
Ces disques ont été lusune fois et ils ont/9amis deux fois à une contrainte de condensation. Ils ont été comparés à des disques nettoyés et séchés revêtus seulement d'un lubrifiant à base de méthyl alkyl siloxane purifié. Il résulte de l'examen comparatif de ces tableaux que le
lubrifiant dopé diminue, après contrainte, la déformation de por-
teuse. L'usure du style de lecture a été déterminé en effectuant la lecture de quelques uns des disques ci-dessus pendant 44 heures
et on a comparé les disques munis d'un lubrifiant non dopé (lubri-
fiant seul) à ceux traités au lubrifiant dopé. Les résultats
étaient similaires.
EXEMPLE 4
On a choisi un lot de 5 disques, chacun de ces disques ayant été pulvérisé directement avec du lubrifiant standard et du lubrifiant dopé contenant 20% en poids de dopant. Les disques ont été lus une fois, soumis à contrainte comme dans l'exemple I

et lus à nouveau. 1 - Disque contenant de l'information à haute densité des-
tiné à être utilisé avec un style de lecture pour obtenir une restitution de signaux occupant une largeur de bande d'au moins plusieurs megahertz lorsqu'on établit un mouvement relatif à une vitesse désirée, entre le disque et le style de lecture, ce disque
étant constitué d'un matériau conducteur contenant une piste d'in-
formation constituée par une configuration de relief de surface dans ladite piste afin de permettre la restitution des signaux de ladite largeur de bande, lors de l'établissement du mouvement
relatif,A ladite vitesse, ce disque étant recouvert d'un lubri-
fiant au méthyl alkyl siloxane répondant à la formule suivante:
