Abstract

Composite board with low X-ray absorption characteristics has a core of foamed organic resin covered on each face with laminated sheet. For use in radiological equipment, esp. where use of carbon fibres or carbon-filled materials are not suitable. Pref. the core is of expanded polyurethane resin, typically about 20 mm thick and 60-80 kg/m3 apparent density. Pref. the covers are of layers of paper impregnated with phenolic, epoxy or polyester resin and typically about 1.4 mm thick. Esp. suitable for supporting patients for X-ray scanning, to minimise the necessary dose level.
