Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing ceramic products.
Ceramic products (dishes, building materials, etc.) are made from clay, using processes that often consume a lot of energy. For example, we know the manufacturing by casting. In this process, a very fluid slip is prepared in plaster molds, prepared by diluting various raw materials in water such as in particular clay. The plaster of the mold absorbs part of the batten and thus gives the content of the mold sufficient cohesion to allow it to be removed from the mold and then handled. The product thus removed from the mold is dried, then baked in the oven to transform into ceramic. We see that this known process consists in adding to the initial clay, a large amount of water which must then be removed by drying before cooking. This corresponds to a significant energy expenditure.
- soit par élimination partielle de l'eau d'une barbotine (par décantation ou par utilisation d'un filtre-presse);
Another known method is to form a wet paw. This is obtained
- either by partial removal of the water from a slip (by decantation or by the use of a filter press);
- either by direct mixing of the constituent materials with a limited quantity of water
This wet dough is shaped to form a product which is then dried and then cooked
Another known process consists in pressing a slightly wet powder obtained
- either by removing water from a slip
- either by re-humidification of dry products
It can be seen that, in all of these known processes, it is necessary to add to the initial raw material, more or less large quantities of water which must then be eliminated by drying or baking in the oven. The resulting energy expenditure is more or less considerable according to the process, but it is in any case important.
Another drawback of the known methods results from the fact that this strong elimination of water cannot generally be carried out without the risk of the appearance of various defects such as cracks, or various deformations which harm the final quality of the ceramic product.
The present invention aims to avoid these drawbacks by eliminating the initial wetting and the resulting drying for the product.
- on utilise comme matière première de l'argile à son humidité de carrière ;
- on broie et on sèche éventuellement cette argile de manière concomita@nte pour obtenir une poudre crue d'une teneur en humidité de l'ordre de 5 % ;
- on presse cette poudre crue dans un mole, où elle est soumise à nie pression de plusieurs centaines de bars;
To achieve this result, the method according to the invention is characteristic in that it comprises the following successive operations
- clay is used as the raw material at its quarry moisture;
- This clay is optionally ground and dried concomitantly to obtain a raw powder with a moisture content of the order of 5%;
- This raw powder is pressed into a mole, where it is subjected to a pressure of several hundred bars;
- the raw product thus obtained is molded
- this raw product is baked in the oven which becomes ceramic or the like.
The examples which follow, given by way of nonlimiting illustrations, will make it possible to better understand the invention and the advantages which it presents.
Exemple n 1
Clay is used as a raw material extracted from a quarry during the dry season. This clay is then stored away from humidity, so that when it is used to prepare ceramic products, its moisture content is naturally in the range of 9% to 10%.
Exemple n 2
Example 2
It is proposed to manufacture tiles, and more particularly flat tiles.
For this purpose, the clay is ground to obtain a raw powder whose average particle size is of the order of 0.15 millimeters for the diameter of the particles. During this grinding operation, the particles are partially dried by the use of drying tubes or drying broods, which reduces their water content to values of 4.25%. This powder is then pressed in a two-cavity mold, on a press whose power is of the order of 500 to 600 tonnes. At each demoulding, we obtain soft @riles tiles, ready to be baked in the oven.
Exemple n 3
Example No. 3
After removing the raw product from the mold, this is passed through (erinier) into a small dryer, which completes its drying before going to the baking oven.
Exemple n 4
Example No. 4
After removing the raw product from the mold, it is sent directly to the baking oven, which is all the same fitted with a pre-oven allowing the residual water to be removed, laying the first temperature rise phase of the product. This solution has the advantage of requiring a slight extension of the entire oven.
In general, the method according to the invention has the following main advantages
- elimination of the initial topping phase which was necessary to obtain a plastic paste (carrying out this operation was particularly delicate, because the paste to be obtained had to be perfectly homogeneous)
- elimination of the drying phase of raw products which left heavy and complicated equipment, consuming a lot of energy
- simplification of the drying operation which can now be carried out without any precaution with raw dough
- reduction of the cost price of ceramic products (energy saving, elimination of drying waste, saving of space and material).
