Abstract

Protective glazing is laminated using at least 2 sheets of glass with adhesive bonding to at least 1 sheet of strong plastic material, specifically polyester. Lighter than panels of equivalent strength of toughened glass bonded by butyral film, e.g. may be about 7 mm thick overall instead of 20-30, hence simpler to install - more resistant to repetitive blows from e.g. an axe. Polyester layers may be printed, tinted or (metallic) coated to modify the appearance, exclude UV light etc. Pref. the face of the laminate closest to protected personnel in e.g. a pay booth etc. is lined with an additional sheet of plastics material, pref. of polyester or polycarbonate. The interfaces of the glass and plastics sheet layers may be bonded using polyvinylbutyral film.
