Abstract

The mechanism is used for a surgical microscope and controlled by an electromagnet to block rotation of the microscope about a vertical axis when it is in use. The movable arm (2) which is mounted on the vertical axis is gripped by a stack of curved washers (1). The curved spring washers normally provide enough friction to prevent rotation.
