Abstract

The trunnion-sleeve (1) is incorporated in a universal joint for a prop-shaft, locating the trunnion (5) without axial play together with a roller bearing (6) race in a yoke (2) bore (3). A snap ring (4) may retain the sleeve in the bore, and the sleeve is fabricated from thin sheet metal. The sleeve has a base (9) of which a central zone projects (8) to form a bearing for the trunnion end face (7), and the projection initially presents a convex face to the trunnion (5). The convex face is flattened against the trunnion end face during assembly and may use a single cavity (12) or a recessed (13) surface to retain lubricant.

Description

Rolling bearing or bearing with cardan joint trunnion.

The present invention relates to a bearing sleeve or bearing for a universal joint joint, which bears by means of retaining means in the receiving bore of the jaw of the universal joint, this sleeve being constituted by a thin-walled sheet provided a bottom which has, in its center, a bearing or abutment surface projecting towards the end face of the cardan joint journal.

A bearing bush or bearing of this type is already known (German patent application 21 22 575). In order to allow perfect functioning of a universal joint, it is necessary to obtain an application without play of the bearing against the trunnion of the universal joint. In order to be able to compensate in play for the play that may appear in the axial direction between the bearing or bearing and the journal, the bearings or bearings must be applied as much as possible under prior stress against the journal of the universal joint.

In the rolling bushing or bearing described in German patent application 21 22 575, a relatively flat elasticity characteristic is obtained under the action of the thin-walled sheet to be mounted with a certain application force. the bottom. This elasticity characteristic, combined with the projecting bearing surface provided in the center of the bottom of the sleeve and oriented towards the pin, satisfies the condition of application without play and simultaneously provides the advantage of a low friction moment. . The application force, however, creates a bulging of the bearing surface and thus the end surface of the universal joint trunnion is first applied only on the outer edge thereof. It is only when the he edge created on the bearing surface by the bulge has been removed by friction as the entire bearing surface is applied flat against the end face of the cardan joint journal. However, this results in a reduced application force. In the most unfavorable conditions, this force can become so weak that the preliminary stress tends towards zero. Thus, axial clearances can appear in service between the bearing or bearing and the ilion turn.

The object of the invention is, while retaining the known advantages, to eliminate the drawbacks of the conditions of variable scope and the consequences which result therefrom, in a simple manner and representing progress.

According to the invention, this is achieved by the fact that the bearing surface has, in its initial condition, a convexity in the direction of the axis of the cardan joint journal, which is deformed in the mounting condition, under the effect of a force acting between the universal joint pin and the bearing surface, to provide a generally flat surface.

The convexity of the bearing surface which is present in the initial condition and which is subjected in the mounting condition to an application force, thereby undergoing a deformation to assume a generally flat condition, has an advantageous effect on the - longevity or service life of the universal joint. This result is based on the fact that the bearing surface has the same dimension from the start and on the advantages which result therefrom due to the invariable nature of the preload and the radius of friction, as well as the moment of friction, since since at the start, this determined surface area is available for its cooperation with the end face of the universal joint trunnion.

According to advantageous embodiments of the invention, profiling can be provided in the bearing surface going from at least one recess to a network of wafer-shaped recesses distributed over the bearing surface for receiving lubricant. These provisions provide with certainty a certain reserve of lubricant on the bearing surface and thus make it unnecessary to maintain it as regards its lubrication.

The description which follows, made with reference to the appended drawings, showing embodiments of the invention in the starting condition and in the mounting condition, will allow a better understanding of the latter.

Fig. 1 is a view in longitudinal section of a bearing sleeve in mounted condition.

Fig. 2 is a view in partial section through a rolling bushing which is in its starting condition or initial condition, on a larger scale than in FIG. i.

Fig. 1.

There is shown in FIG. 1 part of a universal joint with the bearing sleeve according to the invention in mounted condition. The mSchoire 2 of the universal joint has a bore 3 in which the bearing bush 1 is supported by means of a retaining ring 4. The pin 5 of the universal joint is mounted in the bearing bush 1 with interposition d 'bearing needles 6. The end face or end face 7 of the cardan joint pin 5 is applied, in the mounting condition shown here, against the generally flat bearing surface 8 of the bottom 9 of the sleeve. To provide protection against the ingress of dirt particles, a radial rim 10 is provided on the open side of the rolling sleeve 1 against which an elastic seal i lip 11 is supported.

There is shown in FIG. 2 a bearing sleeve 1 which is still in the initial condition, shortly before the end of the assembly. We can clearly see on this
The convexity of the bearing surface 8 is shown. One of the numerous possibilities for receiving the lubricant is also represented by the recess 12.

Fig. 3 shows, looking along the arrow
III in Fig. 1 another possible embodiment of the bearing surface 8, which is provided with a wafer-shaped network consisting of depressions or recesses 13.

The invention is not limited however to the embodiments shown. A bearing sleeve of this type can be basically in the form of a plain bearing sleeve. The conformation of the convexity and of the means for receiving the lubricant on the bearing surface, as well as the type of retaining means for the rolling sleeve or bearing in the bore of the jaw also depend inter alia on the economy of the process. manufacturing and mounting, and they may therefore appear in a different aspect. The drawings can only represent a few possibilities for the constructive realization of the invention.
