Abstract

The rotor is fixed coaxially to a drive shaft. The agitator can be supported at surface level by a floating assembly or by a fixed structure. The rotor comprises two axially spaced sets of helical blades which provide two-stage agitation as the rotor turns. Rotation can be clockwise or anticlockwise and the speed can be fast or slow. The direction of rotation can be periodically alternated. Used to break up the surface of a liq., partic. water for aeration or degassing. The treatment is partic. applicable to pisciculture installations and to tankers for transporting live fish. The double helix of the rotor induces efficient emulsification of the agitated liq. The result is obtained with a compact, inexpensive rotor.
