Abstract

Boat hull surfaces are finished by (1) premixing the surface, (2) applying on the surface a nylon fabric which has been treated with an antistick agent, (3) impregnating the fabric with a suitably catalysed synthetic resin, (4) polymerising the resin and (5) peeling the tissue from the surface. The method is esp. for finishing the outer surfaces of moulded sailing boat hulls. It avoids the use of conventional premixing and polishing. It gives a textured surface with relief prints, the choice of resin giving surfaces having resistance to abrasion, corrosion and heat. The texture improves fluid flow and allows an antiskid coating to be obtd.
