Abstract

The arrangement for fixing e.g a shelf to the side of a chair incorporates a shell (3) which has a bar (4) across one end and two arcuate elements (5,6) extending from the ends of the bar. These arcuate elements hook around the front and rear legs of the chair. At the rear of the bar extends a rectangular, tube-like section (1) which is closed at its rear end. The shelf, ashtray or armrest is mounted above the hollow section. A latch element (8) slides within the section and when the device is in place, the latch is spring biassed against the chair to prevent the arcuate elements from disengaging the chair-legs.

Description

 The present invention relates to a device making it possible to fix, to a chair, an accessory such as an armrest, a tablet, an ashtray, a support for a glass and any object which may be practical in certain cases.

 Various devices are known which make it possible to mount an accessory on a chair, these devices being generally bulky, impractical, and of an installation which often requires tools.

 One of the aims of the present invention is to produce a very simple, inexpensive and rapid installation device.

 The device according to the invention is of the type comprising a half-shell presenting a core and two curved ends intended to cooperate with a front leg and the corresponding rear leg of a chair, the core being on its external surface, provided with the accessory and is characterized in that it comprises, projecting from the core, a retractable lock. Thanks to this arrangement, a device is produced which is very simple to adapt to a chair and which, once in place, is perfectly rigid, the bolt cooperating by its edges with the front foot and the rear foot against which the curved ends bear.

 According to a particular constructive characteristic, the core, on its external face, is extended by a closed tubular element, at its free end, and supporting the accessory, the lock being slidably mounted in the tubular element against the action of elastic means tending to make it protrude.

 The device shown in the figures comprises a body 1, of trapezoidal section, and one end of which is closed by a wall 2, while the other end is secured to a plate 3 suitably folded to form a half-shell having a core 4 and two curved ends 5 and 6.

 In the core 4, an opening 7 is made in which a lock 8 slides, the end of which is housed in the body I comprises shoulders 9 cooperating with the longitudinal edges of the body 1.

 Between the bottom 2 and the latch 8 is inserted a compression spring 10 tending to project said latch, this being held in the body by means of its shoulders 9 which abut against the plate 3.

 In the embodiment shown, the body 1 is integral with an upright 11 supporting an armrest 12.

 In Figure 2, there is shown a chair 14 comprising a seat 15, a backrest 16 and four legs 17, 18, 19 and 20, the device being intended to be mounted on the legs 18 and 19 so that the curved end 5 cooperates with the foot 18, the curved end 6 with the foot 19., the lock being inserted between said feet and bearing against them by its edges. When the device is put in place, it is perfectly locked and the armrest is very stable.

 One can, of course, equip the device with other organs such as a shelf, a holder for a glass, an ashtray etc.

 The installation of the device is simple since it suffices to apply the lock 8 against the junction point of the two feet 18 and 19, in order to erase it against the action of the spring 10, then to slide the assembly so that the curved ends 5 and 6 come to bear against the feet 18 and 19 respectively, the latch 3 then protruding between the latter.

 Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment which has just been described and which has been shown in the accompanying drawings. Many modifications of details can be made without departing from the scope of the present invention.

E v E D I C A T I 0 S  10 - Device for fixing, to a chair, an accessory such as an armrest (12), a shelf, an ashtray, a support for a glass etc, and of the type comprising a half-shell (3) having a core ( 4) and two curved ends (5 and 6) intended to cooperate with a front foot (18) and the rear foot (19) corresponding to a chair, the core being, on its external face, provided with the accessory, characterized in that it comprises, projecting in the core (4) a retractable lock (8).  20 - Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the core (4), on its external face, is extended by a tubular element (1) closed at its free end (2) and supporting the accessory ( 12), the lock (8) being mounted packing in the tubular element (1) against the action of elastic means (10) tending to make it protrude.
