Rev. Entomol.23 460-461 (1978)).Nezara viridula
Amongst the phytosanitary products advantageously used for the protection of cotton plants, mention may be made mainly of products known as pyrethroids, and especially cypermethrin, which has been recommended for use in doses of 150 to 240 g / ha (Elliot et al. al., Ann Rev. Entomol, 24, 460-461 (1978)).
However, the presence of mites and especially Hemitarsonemus latus causes the need to associate the pyrethroid active miticide. This has been suggested by Angelini et al. (Cotton and Tropical Fibers, 33 (1) 85 (1978)) who have seen fit to use triazophos (Cotton and
Tropical Fiber, 34 (1) 82-84 (1978)) in combination with permethrin or decis, or
Fenvalerate.
With regard to cypermethrin, it has also been proposed to associate it with triazophos at various doses (Res.
Discl. no 16176 Sept. No. 16176 Sept. 1977; Cotton and Tropical Fibers 34 (1) 183 (1979), 35 (1) 83-87 (1980)). The doses used are generally greater than 35 g / ha for cypermethrin and 350 g / ha for triazophos. Dose reduction is considered for triazophos but not for cypermethrin, the dose of which is already very low compared to the original doses.
It is recalled that "cypermethrin" denotes the active ingredient of formula
and "triazophos" denotes the active ingredient of formula
It has now been found, and this is the subject of the present invention, that the cotton plants could be treated and still obtain excellent results by using cypermethrin and triazophos at doses much lower than those recommended so far.
The invention therefore relates to a method of treating cotton plants, with a view to combating their pests or pests, especially sucking biting insects and mites, characterized in that a composition comprising a mixture of cypermethrin and triazophos is applied. the constitution of this composition and its application rate being such that the cypermethrin is applied at a rate of 15 to 30 g / ha, preferably at a rate of 20 to 30 g / ha, and the triazophos is applied in a proportion of 100 to 300 g / ha preferably, at a rate of 150 to 250 g / ha
Examples 1 to 7
Plots of 200 m2 planted with cotton were treated by spraying aqueous emulsions of cypertramine and triazophos obtained by adding emulsifiable concentrates of these two pesticides in water.
The treatment is repeated every 14 days from the appearance of the pests.
In order to obtain as homogeneous results as possible, the results are obtained from 10 observations made at regular intervals of 7 days, each time on 5 plots of cotton growing, by recording and summing in each plot the results obtained on 10 cotton plants. In addition, the results obtained on the plots were averaged and, for the number of pests observed, the results from the observations were added.
The results from the 7 examples are summarized in Table I attached. Examples 5 to 7 are comparative tests using either cypermethrin alone (Examples 5 and 6) or a triazophos / DDT mixture (or dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, Example 7). Examples 4 and 7 were made on another cotton field than Examples 1 to 3. It can be seen that good results are obtained despite the low doses of products used. These results have also been remarkable for their consistency in time and space.
Examples 8 and 9
The same procedure was followed as in Examples 1 to 7, but one year later, on another cotton plantation and with only 6 observations every 14 days or so.
The results from these Examples 8 and 9 are shown in Table II.
Note the regularity of the treatment according to the invention vis-à-vis the different categories of pests and the good results obtained.
Examples 10 to 12
We operate as in Examples 8 and 9, but with the cotton plants from the 2nd vegetative cycle of the year and invaded more especially by caterpillars.
Les résultats obtenus figurent au tableau III. The results obtained are shown in Table III.
The compositions which can be used in the invention contain cypermethrin and triazophos as active ingredients, as well as, generally, an inert, liquid or solid carrier acceptable in agriculture and / or a surfactant which is also agriculturally acceptable and possibly other acceptable adjuvants in agriculture.
In particular, the usual carriers and surfactants of the pe-sticides can be used.
These compositions may also contain any other kind of ingredients such as, for example, protective colloids, adhesives, thickeners, thixotropic agents, penetration agents, stabilizers, sequestering agents, etc. other known active substances with pesticidal properties (in particular insecticides or fungicides) or with properties promoting plant growth (especially fertilizers) or with properties regulating plant growth. More generally, the active ingredients used in the invention can be combined with any solid or liquid additive corresponding to the usual techniques of formulation.
The compositions that can be used in the process of the invention according to what has been described above usually comprise from 0.5 to 95% (by weight) of active ingredients (that is to say all of cypermethrin + triazophos). As regards the compositions suitable for storage and transport, they advantageously contain from 10 to 95% (by weight) of active ingredients.
According to what has already been said, the active materials used in the invention are generally associated with carriers and optionally surfactants.
By the term "carrier" in this specification is meant an organic or inorganic material, natural or synthetic, with which the active ingredients are associated to facilitate their application on the plant, on seeds or on the ground. This support is therefore generally inert and must be acceptable in agriculture, especially on the treated plant. The support may be solid (clays, natural or synthetic silicates, silica, resins, waxes, solid fertilizers, etc.) or liquid (water, alcohols, ketones, petroleum fractions, aromatic or paraffinic hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydrocabures, liquefied gases , etc ...).
The surfactant may be an emulsifier, dispersant or wetting agent of ionic or nonionic type. There may be mentioned for example salts of polyacrylic acids, salts of lignosulphonic acids, salts of phenolsulphonic or naphthalenesulphonic acids, polycondensates of ethylene oxide with fatty alcohols or with fatty acids or with fatty amines, substituted phenols (especially alkylphenols or arylphenols), salts of sulfosuccinic acid esters, taurine derivatives (especially alkyltaurates), phosphoric esters of polyoxyethylated alcohols or phenols. The presence of at least one surfactant is generally essential especially when the inert carrier is not soluble in water, and the application carrier agent is water.
The compositions used in the invention can be in quite diverse forms, solid or liquid.
As forms of solid compositions, mention may be made of powders for dusting or dispersion <with an active ingredient content of up to 100%).
As forms of compositions which are liquid or intended to constitute liquid compositions during application, mention may be made of solutions, in particular water-soluble concentrates, emulsifiable concentrates, emulsions, concentrated suspensions, aerosols and powders. wettable (or powder spray), pasta.
The emulsifiable or soluble concentrates most often comprise 10 to 80% of active materials, the emulsions or solutions ready for application containing, for their part, 0.01 to 20% of active ingredients. In addition to the solvent, the emulsifiable concentrates may contain, when necessary, 2 to 20% of suitable additives, such as stabilizers, surfactants, penetrating agents, corrosion inhibitors, colorants, adhesives. As an example, here is the composition of some concentrates
- active ingredients 400 g / l
alkaline dodecylbenzene sulfonate 24 g / l
- Nonylphenol oxyethylated to 10 molecules
of ethylene oxide 16 g / l
cyclohexanone 200 g / l
- aromatic solvent qsp 1 liter
According to another formula of emulsifiable concentrate, it is used
- active ingredients 250 g
- epoxidized vegetable oil 25 g
mixture of alkylaryl sulfonate and
of polyglycol ether and fatty alcohols 100 g
dimethylformamide 50 g
- xylene 575 g
From these concentrates, emulsions of any desired concentration can be obtained by dilution with water, which are particularly suitable for application to the leaves.
The concentrated suspensions, also applicable in spraying, are prepared in such a way as to obtain a stable fluid product that does not settle and they usually contain from 10 to 75% of active ingredients, from 0.5 to 15% of surfactants, from 1 to 10% of thixotropic agents, from 0 to 10% of suitable additives, such as antifoams, corrosion inhibitors, stabilizers, penetrating agents and adhesives and, as a carrier, water or an organic liquid in which the active ingredient is little or not soluble: some organic solids or mineral salts may be dissolved in the support to help prevent sedimentation or as antifreezes for water.
Wettable powders (or spray powder) are usually prepared to contain from 20 to 95% active ingredients, and usually contain, in addition to the solid support, from 0 to 5% of a wetting agent, to 10% of a dispersing agent, and, when necessary, from 0 to 10% of one or more stabilizers and / or other additives, such as penetrating agents, adhesives, or anti-caking agents, coloring agents, etc ...

In order to obtain these sprayable powders or wettable powders, the active ingredients are intimately mixed in appropriate mixers with the additional substances and milled with suitable mills or other mills. Spray powders are thus obtained, the wettability and suspension of which are advantageous; they can be suspended with water at any desired concentration and this suspension can be used very advantageously especially for application to the leaves of plants.
In place of the wettable powders, pasta can be made. The conditions and methods of production and use of these pastes are similar to those of wettable powders or powders to be sprayed.
As already mentioned, aqueous dispersions and emulsions, for example compositions obtained by diluting with water an emulsifiable wettable powder or an emulsion according to the invention, are included in the general scope of the compositions that can be used. emulsions may be of the water-in-oil or oil-in-water type and may have a thick consistency such as that of a 'mayonnaise'.
