Abstract

During the life of a motor vehicle, the brake pads (2) wear a groove (4) in the disc (1). The groove is trapezoidal in section. When conventional replacement disc pads are fitted, similar in section to the original equipment, contact with the disc is minimal because the peripheral edges of the pads only make line contact with the sloping edges of the groove. The modified disc pads have chamfered edges (7,8) which ensure that the pads and disc make full face contact at all times. The chamfers may be made after the moulding of the pads or as a part of the manufacturing process.
