Abstract

The installation comprises a digester channel located beneath one or more gasometers. Raw material from a reception hopper is fed through a grinder into one end of the digester channel. The channel contains a coaxial screw feeder to move material along the channel. A sealable valve is fitted between the hopper outlet and the channel entry. The material in the channel is kept at fermentation temp. by a hot water circulation system. At the outlet end of the channel, fermented material is evacuated by a discharge conveyor. The rate of feed of raw material into the through the channel is pref. controlled automatically. The screw feeder is pref. reversible and its drive is programmed for periodic reversals prior to advancing the material towards the discharge end of the channel. The sealable valve is pref. actuated by automatically controlled, fluid power cylinders. The installation is intended for the prodn. of methane for power and heating. The operation of the installation is continuous and can be automatically controlled.
