Abstract
Description
de l'ordre de 900C à 2000C.The purpose of the invention is to reduce the viscosity of
clay-based drilling muds with effective additives
these, during drilling or completion at very high temperature
of the order of 900C to 2000C.
To properly fulfill their role, sludge doi
have a number of physical characteristics
and chemical, sometimes contradictory.
To reach this goal, water sludge contains
a number of constituent elements, for example:
. water, soft or containing electrolytes (NaCl, Kcl, C12 ...)
clay, which one chooses according to the salinity of
the water used and characteristics sought
. one or more viscosifying polymers
. a filtrate reducer, polymer or not
. a dispersant which makes it possible to lower the viscosity of the
mud by deflocculating clay
. one or more weighting agents
The current trend of drilling with viscosities
each time the terrain allows it, and the problem
posed me by the thickening of the mud to the big profon
provide dispersants with an important role in
control of sludge with water. It is necessary:
. in the case of low viscosities: maintain visco
at its minimum value while retaining a
a suitable thixotropic composition and a good suspending power.
limiter l'augmentation de viscosité.. in the case of high viscosities: avoid or at least
limit the viscosity increase.
Polyphosphates have been widely used but
their low thermal stability makes them unattractive.
Lignin also gives interesting results,
but contamination by certain electrolytes (salts of
calcium in particular) leads to its precipitation, and therefore
to its loss of efficiency.
Ferro-chromium lignosulphonates (such as Brixel) are very effective until
10 g / l, limit for their dispersing action.
Beyond this, they are used as filtrate reducers. They
are effective in the presence of calcium salts.
Their thermal stability is average, which is a
serious drawback for drilling at great depths.
d'acides acryliques (Brevet américain 3.764.530) peu effica
In addition, for ecological reasons, the rejection
the nature of chromium salts, toxic, is growing
regulated, and the use of these complex lignosulfonates
will probably be banned in the future,
Other dispersants include salts
of acrylic acids (US Patent 3,764,530) inefficient
these in the presence of electrolytes and anhydride copolymers
maleic and de-styrene sulfonate (US Patent 3,730,900).
It is not certain that all the dispersarts
feel the same mechanism. Nevertheless it has been proven for
some such as ferrochrome lignosulfonate in the
SPE 8225, and it is likely for all that adsorp
on lamellar particles, on the faces or on the
sides of these particles follow the "donor" or "acceptor" functions of electrons carried by the dispersant, prevents the
flocculation or gelling of clay by preventing 163
"Edge to Face" links $ Face Side) common in s @ s-
clay pensions, by increasing repulsion forces
between the particles and / or decrease of the attraction forces.
The decrease in dispersancy at high temperatures
ture can have at least two causes besides those directly
related to drilling
chemical degradation of the dispersant
the desorption of this dispersant under the effect of the tem
ture.
The present invention relates to the use, by way of
dispersants, polymers or copolymers of low mass
Molecular comprising from 2 to 95% of hydroxamic functions
or thiohydroxamines, which give extremely complex
stable with transition metals, and-which adsorb
thus very solidly on clay particles, by
intermediate aluminum, calcium, magnesium cations,
iron, etc ... present in clays. These dispersants uti
low concentration show unexpectedly
an excellent efficiency, in the presence of fresh or salt water,
at temperatures up to 2000C and also have a very significant filtrate reducing action.

These tests show that Brixel very quickly loses its dispersing properties to 2000. On the other hand, polyhydroxamic acid makes it possible to maintain a very low viscosity at clay dispersions, for a concentration which, under the conditions of the tests, is between 1 and 3 g / liter.
It should be noted that the reducing properties of the filtrate also remain excellent after 7 days of heating at 2000.

It can be seen from all the preceding examples that: Polyhydroxamic acids are good dispersants of
clays
- in soft bed
- in salty waters. The concentration to be used is lower than with
other dispersants.
Their effectiveness after prolonged heating remains excellent
and that it is vastly superior to that of
deemed the most thermally stable.
. In addition these products are excellent wire reducers
trat after heating the mud.
