Abstract

Gas scrubber includes a first stage wherein steam and/or atomized water is injected into the gas from nozzles arranged within a vertical flue stack. In a second stage, the wetbed gas is centrifugally compressed within an enclosed rotating structure arranged on the top of the stack, so as to condense water together with particulate. The rotary structure includes upper and lower surfaces which converge radially outwardly. The surfaces carry annular screens for reducing slippage between the gas and the rotor structure. A further screen is arranged therebetween. Circumferentially spaced impeller blades are also provided within the structure. Water is discharged from the rotor structure by tangentially arranged outlets within a ring sandwiched between the outer peripheries of the upper and lower surfaces. The rotor structure is surrounded by a housing having outlets for water leading to drain. An outer housing incorporates a further screen.
