Abstract

The differential gear train locks automatically when no torque imbalance exists between the co-axial output shafts (d,e). The locking or dogging components are relatively small with enhanced contact areas, and the system may be incorporated in conventional differential units. Crown wheel (g) receives input drive, being built onto a cage (f) containing a double crown wheel (a) with the output pinions. Two similar dogging wheels (b,c) interpose pinions and wheel, comprising hub blocks with radial spoked of a double gear tooth cross-section, and being connected by a pin (h) in a part circular slot hole (s). Springs tend to move the wheels into engagement with the respective pinions, pin (h) in slot-hole (s) permitting some relative rotation of the wheels.
