Abstract

The setting of the heating control thermostat for a building is controlled by the lock on the main exit door so when premises are vacated and the door locked the set temp. for the control of the air heating of the premises is reduced. A rack (3) is attached to the lock (4) mechanism and moves horizontally as the lock is operated. A pinion (1) meshing with the rack is fitted to the shaft of the thermostat so the set temp. is altered by movement of the rack. The range of the temp. settings is adjustable by moving a collar (6) fixed by a set-screw to the rack coupling. A spring (5) between the collar and the gear casing (7) ensures positive location of the rack. As an alternative to manual operation of the rack through mechanical coupling, electrical contacts may be provided on the lock to operate an electro-magnet coupled to the rack.
