Abstract
Description
Process improves the continuous spinning of viscose rayon.
The present invention relates to an improved process for the continuous spinning of viscose rayon.
Continuous viscose rayon spinning processes are contacted in which the viscose, extruded by suitable dies in a coagulation bath, is coagulated and drawn in the same bath or in successive baths, and then the yarn passes over a training support apparatus. which makes the spur traverse a practically helical course, that is to say a path consisting of a series of successive turns which are not exactly helicoidal but are almost so, the yarn undergoing a series of treatments as it traverses this course until it reaches the desired final characteristics.A type of apparatus designed so that the coagulated and stretched yarn travels a substantially helical course, and to which reference is made hereinafter, constitutes a main roll having a relatively large diameter and a series of secondary rollers having a much smaller diameter whose axes are oblique with respect to the previous roll. These last rolls are normally called training rollers. The main roller is also called a treatment roller because the chemical and thermal treatments are carried out on it.
As in the devices of this type a yarn corresponds to each drive roller, that is to say that several yarns move simultaneously in the apparatus and all move on the periphery of the treatment roller and each separately on the periphery of a separate drive roller, reference is made in the description of the invention to an apparatus having a single drive roller and therefore the invention is described with respect to a single yarn being however understood that when In practice, many yarns are processed simultaneously and therefore several drive rollers are used.
The main roll or processing roll and therefore the substantially helical path of the yarn, is divided into several successive zones in the direction of travel of the yarn itself, i.e., the lingitudinal direction of the processing roll, a particular stage of treatment corresponding to each of these areas. These various zones are normally separated by appropriate devices such as mechanical devices and a very simple separation device consists of flanges or pairs of flanges interposed between each zone and the adjacent zones. In the description of the invention, reference is made to a device of this type, it being understood, however, that the invention is independent of the particular mechanical device used for putting it into practice.
In the known continuous processes of this type, the yarn undergoes, as previously indicated, coagulation and stretching in the bath where it is extruded or in this bath and in other successive baths or in a dipped guide tube. in the bath through which the yarn passes and the bath flows.
Then, the yarn begins its helical path and the first operation it undergoes during this path is an acid stabilization, followed generally by a wash. Other treatment zones follow, generally comprising desulfurization, bleaching and finishing zones separated by washing zones and drying zones, but the invention, as indicated by the following description, is independent of treatments following stabilization. The above-mentioned treatment is normally carried out while the yarn is traveling at a speed not exceeding 90 m / min, generally between 50 and 80 m / min. Under these operating conditions, the conventional cycle is appropriate and satisfactory.
However, for some time, it has been desired to increase the speed of movement of the yarn in order to reduce production and consequently reduce the cost of the yarn. Obviously, in order to achieve this objective, it is possible to increase the dimensions of the apparatus so that the duration of the various treatments is the same as in the traditional cycle. However, this solution is not desirable for reasons of cost and space occupied as well as as a result of the difficulties of walking and maintenance of a device exceeding certain dimensions.
The invention makes it possible to increase the processing speed of the yarn in processes of the aforementioned type without increasing the dimensions of the treatment zones and consequently of the apparatus, which constitutes an important technical and economic progress.
To better understand the invention, it is necessary to consider that, in the prior art, coagulation substantially precedes the drawing or that both operations are carried out in part almost simultaneously. In other words - and this is the basis for all drawing processes of artificial and synthetic yarns - the yarn which is extruded in the liquid phase (ie because it is melted as is the case with thermoplastic filaments, either because it is in solution as is the case of cellulosic filaments such as viscose rayon filaments to which the invention applies) must first between solidified, by means that differ according to spinning techniques and which may be cooling, evaporation of the solvent and the like, but which, in the case of viscose rayon wet-spun, consists of coagulation in an acid and salt bath.
However, the coagulated polymeric filaments are not oriented; the stretching operation is thus carried out, which comprises the orientation of the macromolecules along the axis of the filaments. Thus, in theory, the coagulation precbde the drawing. In practice, however, the two operations are at least partly simultaneous insofar as the stretching begins before the end of the coagulation and continues until the end of the coagulation and beyond, until the filament acquired the desired degree of orientation. The development and termination of coagulation can be monitored by measuring the "coagulation index" or "index J", which is a measure of the degree of completion of coagulation. To calculate this index according to its definition, the number of moles of CS2 per 100 glucosidic groups of the cellulose is determined.
It is considered that a yarn that has reached an index of 0 to 1 is completely coagulated.
- sulfate de sodium 60 à 140 g/l.The process of the invention is essentially characterized by subjecting the yarn to partial coagulation and stretching which are at least partially simultaneous until it reaches the predetermined degree of complete stretching - which , for viscose rayon yarns, is normally between 20 and 506 - and a degree of coagulation expressed by the Y index between 14 and 18, and by the fact that the yarn is then subjected to, without any further stretching , to a treatment called post-coagulation, during which it reaches complete coagulation, expressed by a coagulation index between 0 and 1, without undergoing any further stretching, and then subjecting the yarn to all the other operations necessary for the particular treatment, these In the case of conventional continuous spinning, the operations are stabilization, desulfurization, bleaching and finishing as well as several washes and a final drying. The post-coagulation treatment is preferably carried out in two stages. In the first stage, the yarn undergoes no treatment but spontaneously reduces its index generally to a value in the range of about 8 to about 5. In the second stage, the yarn is brought into contact with a stabilizing bath which is acidic because it contains sulfuric acid and may contain salts such as zinc sulphate and sodium sulphate at temperatures between 50 and 100 ° C. A typical bath contains the following components:
sulfuric acid 30 to 70 g / l
- Zinc sulphate 1.8 to 4.2 g / l
sodium sulfate 60 to 140 g / l.
At the end of the second stage, the index 6 is reduced to a final value of 0 to 1.
The duration of the post-coagulation treatment is obviously determined by the coagulation indices at its beginning and end, but in practice it is between 15 and 40 seconds in the most common cases.
The two stages of postcoagulation take place in two successive zones of the helicoidal path which is delimited in practice by the treatment roller and a training roller.
In a preferred form of the invention, the post-coagulation treatment is carried out while the yarn is already moving along its helical path along which it is then subjected to the subsequent treatments required in each particular case.
The process of the invention has the surprising effect of allowing the viscose rayon to be spinned according to a continuous process of the type described, at speeds much higher than those previously achieved, without increasing the dimensions of the treatment zones and consequently with durations separated and / or shorter overall, as is evident from the following examples.
The progress thus obtained is totally unexpected and surprising, not only because nothing suggests a treatment of this type, but also because the principle that coagulation precedes stretching and possibly is completed during stretching itself. but is never performed after drawing, is a fundamental principle of the technique of spinning viscose rayon and in practice linear polymers in general. The division of coagulation operations in several stages, one of which follows stretching, constitutes a considerable and very original innovation in this field.
The invention will be better understood on reading several of its embodiments having no limiting character and in-regård of the accompanying drawings which schematically illustrate an apparatus that can be used for the practice of the method, the except for all the elements concerning the treatments which follow the washing after the post-coagulation, these treatments being able to be carried out according to the traditional technique or in a different way, without effect on the invention.

Figure 2 is a side view of a portion of the rollers on which the yarn is moving in a substantially helical path.
The figures show the die 10 from which emerges a bundle of filaments 11 which are united to form a yarn 1-2. The filaments are extruded in a coagulation bath 13 and the yarn passes through a guide tube 14 in which the bath flows in the same direction as the yarn. The yarn exits batn 13 and tube 14 and, after being guided by a wire guide 20, reaches a drive roller 22 and a processing roller 21 whose axes are mutually oblique. As indicated, in practice, there are several drive rollers and on each of them moves a different yarn from a different die and coagulated and stretched separately. The processing zones of the roller 21 are separated by pairs due 23. A first post-coagulation zone 24, a second post-coagulation zone 25, a zone 26 in which the yarn is washed after the post-coagulation and then the yarn undergo all other desirable treatments in the zone 27 which is shown are thus defined. cut and in successive areas not illustrated.
The invention makes it possible to spin the viscose rayon at increased speeds of 20 to 50% over those of the conventional method, all the other conditions being equal, and thus spinning speeds of between 110 and 100 are achieved. 140 m / min.
The draw ratio is determined by the ratio of the linear speed of the driving roll-drive roll assembly to the linear speeds of the filaments at the beginning of coagulation in the vicinity of the die 10. Part of the drawing is carried out according to a hydraulic process in the guide tube 14. The coagulation index or Y index is measured on the yarn itself before the post-coagulation zones, which expresses the overall degree of coagulation undergone by the yarn before and during stretching, while measuring at the end of zone 24, the final coagulation index corresponding to the state of the filaments after postcoagulation.
The following examples illustrate the preparation of yarns according to the process of the invention, all the yarns being subjected after post-coagulation and the corresponding washings, desulphurization, bleaching and finishing followed by washes and drying, all being known in the art.
