Description
The present invention, due to the collaboration of Messrs BREDOUX
François, HATIF Philippe and ROUSSEAU Michel, and produced in the Services of the Applicant, describes improvements to the invention defined in French patent application 79 20642 filed on August 14, 1979, to which the present application is attached in the form of a first addition, the original patent application being hereinafter referred to as "main patent". The present invention relates more particularly to a photographic product forming color images, residual, positive with respect to the original, developed, whitened and fixed by treatment with a basic composition and a whitening-fixing sheet and separation of the latter at the end of treatment and with a method of forming color images, which uses a basic treatment composition and a sheet of whitening-fixing.
Most of the residual, positive color image formation methods in silver halide photographic products containing dye-forming compounds include at least one step for whitening the silver image and at least one step for fixing of the silver salts or else a combined whitening-fixing stage, after the stage or stages of silver development and chromogenic development. The bleaching and fixing steps are usually carried out in solution.
The photographic product described in the main patent can be treated by a method which brings a significant improvement to the usual bleaching-fixing techniques which use treatment baths. The dye image-forming photographic product described in the main patent comprises (a) a photosensitive element comprising a support on which is applied at least one layer of silver halide photosensitive emulsion with which is associated a dye-forming compound. dye image, (b) a basic treatment composition and means for releasing the latter on the exposed photosensitive element and (c) a whitening-fixing sheet which comprises a support on which are applied, in one or more layers, a metallic silver bleaching agent, a fixing agent for silver salts and a hydrophilic colloidal binder whose swelling time T 1/2 is greater than 5 s, the photographic product further comprising a developer silver halides.
After exposure according to an image of the photographic product described in the main patent, the basic treatment composition is spread between the photosensitive element and the bleaching-fixing sheet maintained in contact with each other so as to achieve, successively, the development of a silver image, the formation of a distribution following an image of a residual colored compound and the bleaching and fixing of the latter by oxidation of the silver image and the elimination of the silver halides not exposed to components of the whitening-fixing sheet, the latter being film-coated at the end of the treatment.
The bleaching-fixing sheet described in the main patent may further comprise a retarding layer containing a polymer which makes it possible to delay the bleaching-fixing reaction until the development of the silver image and the formation of the distribution. following an image of the residual colored compound, as well as the possible migration of the released, diffusible dye, are practically finished.
The bleaching-fixing sheet described in the main patent may comprise, in place of the retarding layer as described above, or in addition to the latter, an acid polymer layer, disposed between the retarding layer and the bleaching layer -fixing, in order to decrease the pH value of the treatment solution to stop development and allow the bleaching and fixing reactions to start.
In the color image forming product described in the main patent, a very basic treatment composition is used, the pH value of which is equal to or greater than 14, and the penetration power of the retarding layer is very high, because it it is allowed to assume that the polymer of the retarding layer is hydrolyzed by the basic treatment composition and the hydrolysis of the polymer is all the more pronounced and all the more rapid the higher the pH value of the treatment composition .
It is sometimes desirable to carry out the chromogenic development at a low pH value, for example at a value less than 12, such as a value between 10 and 12, depending on the dye-forming compounds used, the qualities of the image. desired, etc.

The process according to the invention can use most photographic products with silver halides forming color images, which, after silver and chromogenic development, are bleached and stabilized by the bleaching-fixing sheet, as described to the main patent, but it is particularly useful in color image transfer transfer processes where a residual dye image is formed.
Photographic products will advantageously be used comprising at least one layer of silver halide emulsion with which is associated a colored dye-forming compound, non-diffusible, hereinafter called RDR compound which, after oxidation by an oxidized developer, can be split in a basic medium to release a diffusible dye-forming group, as a function of the exposure received, outside the photosensitive product, making it possible to obtain a distribution according to an image, residual, positive with respect to the original, of the colored compound, which are associated with a negative silver image and unexposed and undeveloped silver halides. At the end of the silver and chromogenic development, the photographic product is treated with the whitening sheet, in the presence of the basic activator as described below. after. These particularly advantageous photographic products are described in detail in the main patent.
In another embodiment, a developing dye is used as the dye image-forming compound.
The bleaching-fixing sheet of the photographic product according to the invention is as described in the main patent, but it always contains a retarding layer and / or a layer of acid polymer as described in the main patent. The bleaching-fixing sheet of the main patent comprises a support on which are applied, in one or more layers, (a) a silver bleaching agent (b) a fixing agent for silver salts and (c) a hydrophilic binder whose swelling time T 1/2 is greater than 5 s. The bleaching agents, fixing agents and useful hydrophilic binders are described in the main patent.
As mentioned above, the retarding layer contains a polymer which makes it possible to delay the bleaching-fixing reaction until the silver and chromogenic developments have been practically completed.
The layer of acidic polymer, when it is present, is placed between the retarding layer and the bleaching-fixing layer and is intended to decrease the pH value of the treatment solution to stop the development and allow the reactions to take place. bleaching and fixing.
As mentioned in the main patent, the retarder layer may include the polymers commonly used in the retarder layers of photographic products. In addition to the non-acid polymers mentioned in the main patent, the acid polymers described in the main patent, in particular the acid polymers described in the journal "Research Disclosure" art. 12331, July 1974, such as poly (styrenesulfonic acids), polyvinyl hydrogen phthalates, polyvinyl acetates and hydrogen phthalates) and copolymers containing units derived from maleic anhydride such as the partial esters of ethylene copolymers and maleic anhydride, the partial esters of methylvinyl ether and maleic anhydride copolymers, styrene and maleic anhydride copolymers, partially hydrolyzed or cyclized copolymers of vinyl acetate and maleic anhydride, as well as copolymers containing units derived from acrylic or methacrylic acid, for example copolymers of butyl acrylate and acrylic acid, copolymers of methyl methacrylate and methacrylic acid, etc. advantageously, in the retarding layer of the bleaching-fixing sheet, a copolymer of styrene and maleic anhydride. The thickness of the retarding layer is advantageously between 5 μm and 50 μm.
In addition, when the colored substance, which forms a residual colored image, releases, during development, a dye or a group of dye, diffusible, distributed according to an image, it may be advantageous to fix this image of released dye to prevent this the latter does not migrate back to the initially photosensitive product, carrying the residual image, and does not disturb the latter. For this purpose, the image of released dye can be fixed on a layer of mordant. Useful mordants and their mode of use are described in the main patent.
Any silver halide developer can be used as long as it participates in a cross-oxidation reaction with the compound RDR. These developers can be present in the photosensitive product or else in the basic treatment composition. Useful developers and their modes of use are described in the main patent.
The method of forming a color image according to the invention can be implemented by using various techniques. We can, for example, develop the photosensitive product in black and white and in color, then apply the whitening-fixing sheet, as described above, by inserting, between the developed product and the treatment sheet, an activator . The contact is maintained until the bleaching and fixing reactions are completed, then the treatment sheet is filmed and in the initially photosensitive product, a residual dye image, bleached and fixed, is obtained (practically without silver). metallic or silver halides).
According to another embodiment, the method according to the invention can be implemented by exposing a photosensitive product comprising, in addition to a silver halide developer, one or more layers of emulsion with silver halides with which they are respectively associated an RDR compound, which forms a residual color image, then the exposed photosensitive product and / or the whitening-fixing sheet are impregnated with a basic activator and the product and the impregnated sheet are applied one against the other , to carry out the complete treatment, that is to say the silver development, the chromogenic development and finally the bleaching-fixing, then the treatment sheet is filmed and a perfectly bleached and fixed color image is obtained.
According to yet another embodiment, the color image formation method is implemented using a composite photographic product according to the invention which comprises (1) at least one photosensitive element for silver halides with which is associated a compound RDR, as well as a silver halide developer, (2) a bleaching-fixing sheet which comprises, in one or more layers, (a) a silver bleaching agent, (b) a bleaching agent fixing of silver halides and (c) a tanned hydrophilic colloidal binder, as well as a retarding layer and / or a layer of acid polymer and (3) a basic treatment composition contained in a frangible capsule and means for releasing this composition on the photosensitive element, after its exposure, this composite photographic product being characterized in that the basic treatment composition has a pH value of between approximately 10 and 12 and in that it contains a promoting agent t the penetration of the retarding layer and / or of the acid polymer layer by the basic treatment composition.
The mechanisms by which images of residual RDR compounds are formed in the photographic product are fully described in the main patent.
After exposure according to an image of the composite photographic product, the basic treatment composition is released between the exposed photosensitive product and the bleaching-fixing sheet, then the photographic product and the sheet are applied in contact with each other. treatment and the contact is maintained until the reactions of the silver and chromogenic developments and the bleaching and fixing reactions are completed, then the treatment sheet is filmed and a dye image is obtained, residual, bleached and fixed , in the photographic product.
According to a variant of the embodiment described above, the composite photographic product according to the invention is used in an instant developing camera in which, after exposure according to an image, the composition is released basic processing, between the exposed photosensitive product and the whitening-fixing sheet, by passing the exposed composite photographic product between pressure rollers, at the time of the latter's removal from the camera. At the end of the development and bleaching-fixing reactions, the treatment sheet is filmed and a residual RDR test is obtained, positive compared to the original.
As mentioned above, in the process and in the composite photographic product according to the invention, a specific treatment composition is used which has a pH of between approximately 10 and 12 and which contains an agent promoting the penetration of the retarder layer and / or acid polymer layer by the treatment composition.
The pH of the treatment composition is adjusted to a value between 10 and 12 by basic mineral or organic compounds, as is well known in the art. Advantageously, weakly basic mineral salts are used, such as sodium bicarbonate, neutral sodium sulfite, mono-, di- or tri-sodium phosphates, particularly disodium phosphate, etc.
As mentioned above, the basic treatment composition contains an agent which promotes the penetration of the retarder layer and / or the acid polymer layer by the treatment solution. As the latter has a low pH value, its speed of penetration of the retarding layer is very low, in the absence of penetration aids, as will be shown in Example 1 below. Particularly useful agents promoting the penetration of the retarding layer and / or the acid polymer layer are the amino acids, in particular the aliphatic, straight chain omega-amino acids, as well as their alkali metal salts. Advantageously, aliphatic, straight-chain, water-soluble omega-amino acids comprising 2 to 12 carbon atoms will be used. Examples of useful amino acids are described in French Patent 2,368,064 and include the acid amino-2-ethanoTque (or glycine or glycine), amino-4-butanoic acid, amino-6-hexanoic acid, amino-ll-undecanoTque acid, etc. It is also possible to use mixtures of acids and amines of 2 to 8 carbon atoms, advantageously acids and amines soluble in water, such as the mixture of n-butanoic acid and n-butylamine. , preferably in stoichiometric proportions. It has been noted that, in the process according to the invention, the amino acids, as defined above, considerably increase the speed of penetration of the retarding layer by the treatment solution, such as will show Example 1 below.
In the main patent, in Examples 6 and 7, basic activators containing amino-11-undecanoic acid have been described, but the pH value of these basic activators is at least 14 and at these very basic pH values , the penetration rate of the retarding layer is very high, regardless of the presence of the amino acid. The essential role of the amino acid added to the basic activator of Examples 6 and 7 of the main patent is to activate the diffusion of the dye released from the RDR compounds used in the photosensitive emulsions, a process which is described in detail in French patent 2,368,064 cited above, and practically does not intervene in the mechanism of penetration of the retarding layer by the treatment composition. These amino acids can be used at various concentrations, advantageously at a concentration between 0.1 g / l and 60 g / l and more particularly at a concentration of between 1 g / l and 20 g / l of treatment composition.
Other agents promoting the penetration of the retarding layer and / or of the acid polymer layer, by the treatment composition, useful in the basic composition used in the process and the photographic product according to the invention, include amino -alcohols, advantageously omega-amino alcohols of 2 to 6 carbon atoms, as described in French patent application 78 10045, filed on April 5, 1978. Useful omega-amino alcohols include ethanolamine, amino-3-propanol, amino-4-butanol, amino-5-pentanol, amino-6-hexanol> etc. The omega-amino alcohol concentration can be varied considerably, but the latter is advantageously between 1 g / l and 50 g / l. However, it should be noted that the amino alcohols described in French patent application 78 10045 activate the diffusion and transfer of dyes released from RDR compounds during treatment.
In the process according to the invention, the amino alcohols play, in addition to the function defined above, the role of agent promoting the penetration of the retarding layer and / or of the acid polymer layer, as will be seen in FIG. Example 3 below.
In implementing the method according to the invention, it is important to note the relationships which exist between the following parameters. When treating a specific photosensitive element which comprises silver halides and a dye image-forming compound, by a basic activator, in contact with a bleaching-fixing sheet, the thickness of the retarding layer of this the latter will be one of the important parameters to be determined.
The thickness of the retarding layer (and the title of hydrolyzable polymer) will be all the more important as the power of activation of the development and of penetration of the retarding layer will be higher.
Les exemples suivants illustrent l'invention. The following examples illustrate the invention.

The copolymer of styrene and maleic anhydride of the retarding layer is LYTRON 810 resin from the Monsanto Company in the United States of America.
The NH4Fe complex, EDTA is the ferric complex of the ammonium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, used as an oxidizing agent for silver or a bleaching agent.
Le composé amino-5-thiadîazole-l,3,4-thiol-2(ou ATT) est utilisé comme accélérateur de blanchiment de l'argent. The amino-5-thiadiazole-1,3,4-thiol-2 (or ATT) compound is used as a money laundering accelerator.
N-hydroxy-2-ethyl-tetrahydrotriazinethione (or HTTT) is used as a fixing agent, as described in the main patent.
On the other hand, a photosensitive film is prepared comprising a conventional gelatin-silver halide emulsion layer, customary, with the title of 2 silver of 20 mg / dm. This film is exposed uniformly and a fraction of the exposed silver halides is developed corresponding to a silver titer of 15 mg / dm
Four samples of the exposed and pre-developed film are taken, which are impregnated for 2 min with a basic activator constituted by a solution, buffered at pH ~ lu, 6, of sodium hydroxide and sodium bicarbonate, to which amino-6-hexanoic acid was added, at a concentration respectively equal to O g / l, 20 g / l, 40 g / l and 60 g / l.
One impregnates, on the other hand, four samples of the whitening-fixing sheet, described above, respectively by one of the activators, defined above, for 1 min.
The speed of the bleaching-fixing reactions is determined by measuring the residual silver titers in the pre-developed film as a function of time (density measurements in the infrared). The curves corresponding to the whitening-fixing kinetics are represented in FIG. 1 (O g / l, 20 g / l, 40 g / l and 60 g / l curves).
The curves in FIG. 1 show that the whitening-fixing reactions start all the more quickly the higher the concentration of the basic activator in amino-6-hexanoic acid, which proves that the penetration of the retarding layer by the activator is facilitated by the amino acid, all the more so when the amino acid concentration is higher.

The results of Table I show that the addition of amino acid to an activator at low pH makes it possible to obtain good development, followed by satisfactory whitening and fixing.
On the other hand, the infrared density measurement shows that there is practically no silver left in the film carrying the residual image, which proves that the bleaching and fixing are practically 100% achieved. Finally, the X-ray fluorescence analysis of the whitening and fixing sheet shows that approximately 85% of the money from the initial film is transferred to the whitening-fixing sheet.
