Abstract

A cylindrical vessel having a sealed cover, and provided with constrictions, in which permeable plates suspended from a ring are rotated, forms a continuously acting, pressurised filter. The vessel is divided vertically into three zones and where the zones join each other, sills or baffles of an elastic, flexible material are fitted. Vertical conduits positioned between the plates terminate at the sills, whilst their upper ends are connected to the central control head which regulates the level of the liq. and the supply of compressed air. The arrangement makes it possible to carry out in a single operation, processes such as defecosaturation which previously required two separate processing vessels or a highly complicated arrangement. In the sugar industry, the juice can be filtered without preliminary thickening and the ppte. can be washed and ejected automatically, mixing of the liqs. being prevented by the compressed air conduits.

Description

The present invention, due to Jozef KABALA,
Tadeusz KOWALCZYK and Jacek NAWROGKI, relates to a plate pressure filter, with continuous operation, intended in particular for the filtration of non-concentrated defecation juice (or juice obtained after separation and filtration).

This is done periodically on filtration presses or through a two-stage filtration process. According to the first step, defecosaturation juice is concentrated in clarifiers or / in settling devices. In the second step, the condensed product is filtered through filters, most often in drum filters or disc filters. A process is also implemented according to which the concentration of the defecosaturation juice is carried out in a disc pressure filter, while the filtration of the concentrated product takes place in a disc and vacuum filter.

The essential drawback of the known methods lies in the use of two separate devices, to carry out the filtration cycle especially of the defecosaturation juice. In addition, the devices used such as drum or disc filters do not ensure good washing of the sediment, which is causing considerable technological loss.

According to Polish Patent No. 69,771, a continuously working plate pressure filter has been proposed which is provided with vertical filtration plates performing a rotational movement. The filter tank is divided into zones by means of fixed partitions over which the filtration plates are transferred from one zone to another by means of a group of hoists.

The use of the lift group in the filter complicates its construction and leads to a considerable development of the filtration device.

The introduction into the industry of continuously operating plate pressure filters constitutes a considerable advance in the technique of filtration of solid-fluid mixtures. These filters have enabled, particularly in the sugar industry, in which they are used for the first time, the passage of two-stage filtration of the juice after the first saturation which was based on the prior concentration of this product and then on its filtration, which required the use of two different devices, the filtration cycle carried out with a single filter. However, these filters have considerable drawbacks due in particular to their heavy construction, the unfavorable proportion of the filtration surface compared to the volume of the device as well as the control system of the device for transferring the filtration plates from one zone to another which is complicated, expensive and sensitive.

The invention aims to develop a filtration device whose construction ensures the execution in a single entire filtration cycle of the defecosaturation juice without prior concentration.

To this end, according to the invention, use is made of a pressure filter comprising a plurality of substantially vertical filter plates, with rotary movements, these plates being arranged in a substantially radial manner in a substantially cylindrical tank comprising bearings or barriers, or thresholds based on resilient elastic material.

Vertical tubes, located between the filtration plates, are brought to the elastic thresholds. The other ends of the vertical tubes are connected to the filter operating head.

On the thresholds, the liquid in the spaces between the plates is expelled, under the action of compressed air, via the vertical tubes and the control group, to the supply tanks. Thanks to this arrangement, liquids from the neighboring areas of the filter do not mix, which is particularly important in the case of simple filtration.
The invention is explained in more detail in the embodiment below given by way of example and with reference to the drawings in which
FIG. 1 represents a filter, in accordance with the invention, in vertical section, and
- Figure 2 the top view of the same filter.

The filter consists of a reservoir 1, closed with a tight cover 2. In this reservoir, the vertical filtration plates 4 are mounted radially, driven in a rotary movement around the axis of the filtered. The ring with the plates is mounted on the vertical, tubular shaft 5 and on the rollers 6, and constitutes the gear wheel of the filter rotated by means of the propulsion device 7. Between the filtration plates, widely spaced one from the other, there are the vertical tubes 8, rigidly fixed to the ring 3, the lower ends of which almost reach the surface of the thresholds P1, P2, P3, while the upper ends #: are connected, likewise as the filtration plates, to the control device 9 mounted in leaktight manner on the shaft 5. The filter comprises a filtration zone I, a zone for washing the sediment II and a zone for removing the sediment III. At the end of the zones
I / II, II / III and III / I are adjusted tightly, according to the shape of the filtration plates, the smooth thresholds P1, P2, P3 prepared in elastic material, for example in gum. The filter is fitted with a control system to control the constant level of the liquid as well as the constant value of the air pressure above its surface. The filter works so that the filtration process takes place in the filtration zone I to which the concentrated juice is brought after the first saturation. Sediment forms on the surface of the plates
filtration. At the end of filtration, what is done
after the passage of the plate, in a rotary, continuous movement, through the filtration zone, this plate and the following appear on the threshold P2, on which the juice located in the space between the plates, is ejected, under the action of compressed air,
filter tank by tube 8 and the device
control 9 in the supply tank to the outside
the camera. Then the plates with the sediment without
juices leave threshold P2 and enter the washing zone
of sediment II where the sediment is washed with
of water. At the end of this stage of the filtration cycle,
the plates with the sediment rise on the threshold P3,
where a similar operation occurs, like on the threshold
P2. On the threshold P3 the plates move in the area
III, where the sediment is removed from these plates
by means of compressed air or by spraying with water. The
sediment or the aqueous mixture is removed from this area
by means of a worm screw. By the threshold P1 the plates
discharged of sediment enter the filtration zone
I and the cycle repeats. The filter product and
washing water is discharged from the filtration plates by means of a control device and passing tubes
by the hollow shaft of the filter. The filter works in con
continuous under a pressure of 1 to 3 atmospheres of compressed air
which is introduced into the tank above the on
face of the liquid.
