Description

The present invention relates to a method of producing a magnetic track having variable physical characteristics along the track.

Indeed, the major drawback of recording information on conventional magnetic tracks, as used in magnetic cards for banking use and other applications such as access cards, is the risk of alteration of this information by the near a magnet. Any erasure, partial mems of information makes it impossible any exploitation of these cards by the usual reading material.

The invention consists in making localized modifications of the magnetic characteristics of the track distributed according to a determined code; the marking thus produced makes it possible to save essential information for the identification of the holder, the recognition of origin or authenticity of the title itself.

It is well known to those skilled in the art that the level of the signal collected at the output of a magnetic read head is directly linked, inter alia, to the distance existing between the air gap of the read head and the material. magnetic itself, and is also linked, for each type of material to the thickness of the latter. The characteristics of a magnetic strip according to current methods are therefore totally dependent on the material used, its thickness and the thickness of non-magnetic material which covers it. The method which is the subject of the invention makes it possible to vary the last two parameters mentioned and therefore to enter information which will be insensitive to any subsequent magnetic disturbance.

The method is implemented between the operations of depositing the magnetic tracks on the base support and the final plasticization by means of a film a few microns thick, ensuring the protection and desired surface condition of the finished product.

The object of the invention is thus a method of producing a magnetic track having variable physical characteristics along the track., P # r: #nt dIurL SuppOrt comprising in black a magnetic track deposited in the usual manner, characterized by the following operations a - a layer of photosensitive material is deposited on the magnetic track, b - the track is exposed to radiation corresponding to the sensitivity of the phososensitive material O through a mask comprising opaque zones and other transparent said radiation according to a distribution corresponding to the code chosen for the track, c - the parts of said layer of non-material photosensitive material are eliminated,
material affected by the radiation according to b, by means of an appropriate solution for audit / d - the parts of said material not dissolved by the development operation under c are incrusted in the magnetic track by subjecting the track to simultaneous action heat and pressure.

The invention will be better understood in the light of the description, given below, of a nonlimiting example of embodiment of the invention with reference to the appended drawing in which
Figures 1 to 6 show the different steps of the method according to the invention.

We start from the assembly shown in FIG. 1 consisting of a support 1 made of polyvinyl chloride coated by thermoassembly of a support film 2 of a magnetic track 3. This assembly is produced in a known manner as is done for example for a card, such as a credit card.

We then proceed to deposit, Figure 2, a photosensitive layer 4 such as the product sold under the reference "riston type 2 301 D" by the Company Dupont de Nemours and which is a varnish polymerizable under ultraviolet radiation. This layer is deposited on the magnetic track 3.

In Figure 3 is shown the following step consisting of exposure to ultraviolet radiation of the photosensitive layer 4 through a mask 5 constituted for example by a film produced according to the usual photographic techniques and comprising a plurality of alternately transparent parts and opaque according to the information to be transferred. The treatment of this LI layer is then carried out in a solvent suitable for said layer, in this case, for example a 1% sodium bicarbonate solution. The parts not affected by the ultraviolet radiation, which remain soluble, are eliminated by the solvent, while the parts which have been affected by the radiation, which have become soluble, remain and protrude on the track constituting a plurality of rods 6 (FIG. 4). .

The sticks 6 are then encrusted in the track 3 as shown in FIG. 5, under the simultaneous action of a pressure, 2 of 17 kg / cm for example and a temperature of 1200C for example.

This operation makes it possible both to reconstitute a smooth surface state and to increase, at the locations of the sticks, the depth of the magnetic track in the support.

FIG. 6 shows the step consisting in applying a protective film 7 as is usually done. This film can be transparent or opaque.

The rods 6 thus produced confer locally indelible properties on the magnetic track. The corresponding marks can easily be detected by the usual techniques of reading after saturation or recording of a modulated signal of appropriate frequency. Upon re-reading, there is a signal level restoring the image of the mask 5.
