Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to display networks and relates more particularly to an alpha-digital display network.
Known alpha-numeric display networks have patterns limited to the representation of numbers and capital letters. These display patterns, as shown in Figure 1, generally include sixteen segments (1 to 16). Hewlett-Packard, in particular, markets display networks with such patterns. The firm onsanto sells per sectioned patterns whose segments 1 and 2 and segments 3 and 4 are electrically connected together so that these patterns only present, in fact, fourteen segments. These segments can be made up of light-emitting diodes or of transparent electrodes exciting a liquid crystal. Each segment is connected to a logic control circuit which selects the segment or segments which must be activated in order to represent a given number or letter. .
The disadvantage of such a pattern is that it does not allow to represent the lower case. In addition, it consists of at least fourteen segments, which represents a large set of interconnections with the logic control circuit.
There are also display patterns for dot matrix shapes, where each point actually corresponds to a segment. In such a case, the amount of segments is further increased.
The aim of the present invention is to provide an improved network which has a lower number of segments while making it possible to represent, alone or associated with another, also the lower case letters.
The display network according to the invention is mainly characterized in that it comprises a pattern of at most twelve segments, arranged to form a rectangle consisting of two long sides of two segments each and two short sides of one segment each with, at its interior, two diagonals of a segment and an axis of a segment, two segments each extending upward the two long sides of said rectangle.
Advantageously, the twelfth segment connects the vertices of the two segments extending the long sides of the rectangle.
The display network according to the invention is further characterized in that it consists of a plurality of identical patterns advantageously of the above type and joined together so that certain segments are common to two patterns.

Other characteristics of the present invention will emerge from the description which follows, given with reference to the appended drawings and giving, by way of explanation but not limitation, various embodiments of this network. On these drawings
- Figure 1 shows a known alpha-numeric pattern;
- Figure 2 illustrates an embodiment of eleven network segments according to the invention;
- Figure 3 illustrates an embodiment with twelve segments;
- Figure 4 illustrates an embodiment of two associated patterns;
- Figure 5a illustrates the different ways of representing the figures;
- Figure 5b illustrates the representation of lowercase;
- Figure 5c illustrates the representation of capital letters;
- Figure 6 shows an embodiment of a display network comprising several groups of distinct patterns;
- Figure 7 illustrates an embodiment of a compact display network.
The pattern in Figure 2 consists of eleven segments numbered from 1 to 11. The diagonals 9 and 10 are each composed of a segment and are intersected at their intersection by segment 11. Thus, the activation of segment 9 implies that the half-segments on either side of segment 11 are always activated together. The eleven-segment pattern allows you to represent numbers in small format and letters in lowercase only, except m and w.
If, as shown in figure 3, we add the segment 12 to this motif, the capital letters, except for the letters M, T, W, X, are also displayable, as well as the numbers in large and medium format with possibility to underline.
Figure 4 illustrates a combination of two joined patterns where segments 4, 5 and 6 are common.
W, X compris).Eight segments s have been activated to represent the lowercase letter m. This combination of two contiguous patterns makes it possible to represent all the lower case letters (including m and w), as well as all the upper case letters (M, T,
W, X included).
Thus, according to the desired display, one can choose the appropriate motif (s): simple motif in FIG. 1, motif comprising the additional segment of FIG. 2 or even the association of two motifs, whether those of FIG. 1 or those of figure 2.
Figures 5a, 5b and 5c illustrate the possibilities of representing the whole of the numbers and letters. In Figure 5a, the numbers 1, 2 and 3 are shown in small format, the numbers 3, 4 and 5 in large format and the numbers 6, 7, 8 and 9 in medium format underlined. Figure 5b represents the lower case and Figure 5c the upper case.
The pattern, object of the invention, is also particularly suitable for a successive juxtaposition thus allowing the creation of a determined network. In this case, two joined patterns have common segments.
This solution leads to good legibility of the letters as well as regular spacing.
A display network can have different groups of patterns spaced apart as illustrated in FIG. 6. In this case, variations as to the size of the letters and numbers are possible.
FIG. 7 represents a compact network of contiguous patterns, the neighboring patterns comprising common segments. In this example, a schedule is shown schematically and indicates the hours of attendance to be made. Each row comprising four rectangles corresponds to four hours the hours between six and ten hours, respectively ten and fourteen hours, then fourteen and eighteen hours. The small activated rectangles represent, by quarter of an hour, the hours of presence to be made. We note that this solution allows the representation of graphs or figures.
