Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an assembly for connecting a patient, via a jar, to a source of vacuum, for example a vacuum pump. Vacuum pumps are widely used in hospitals to extract fluids from patients during operations. The liquids in question may be humors or else liquids introduced into the body for the purposes of the operation, for example physiological saline. One particular area where suction pumps are used is that of abortion, where uterine fluids, including the feetus, are removed from the body by means of a suction pump. The jar is used to receive the liquid coming from the patient and prevents the liquid from reaching the suction pump. It should be noted that the word "liquid" is used in this description to also designate solid or semi-solid materials. solids possibly present in the liquid
The object of the invention is to provide an assembly by means of which, when a jar is full or must no longer be used for any other reason, it is possible to easily connect from this jar the hose connected to the patient and to the pressure, and connect them to another jar
The invention provides an assembly used to connect a patient, via a jar, to a pressure source, characterized in that it comprises a Gb-turator intended to be housed in an opening in the jar, a first and a second comdutts penetrating in the jar, through the obturator and nose a fitting removably mounted on the obturator and having a first and a second passage communicating respectively with the first and second conduits and designed to be connected respectively to a hose connected to the patient and to a source of vacuum.

2 et 3.2 and 3.
The assembly represented by FIG. 1 includes a plug 1 designed to be housed in the mouth of a jar (not shown). Passages 2 and 3 pass vertically through the plug and both have a circular section, passage 2 having a larger section than passage 3
Metal tubes 4 and 5 are housed respectively in passages 2 and 3 and are both connected by their upper end to a metal plate 6. Nipples 7 and 8 start from the plate 6 upwards and communicate respectively with the tubes 4 and 5. For a reason explained below, the nipple 7 is longer than the nipple 8.
The lower end of the tube 2 has an external thread 9 and the lower end of the tube 5 has a similar thread 10. An internally threaded collar It is fixed to the thread 9 and a tube 12 directed downwards communicates with the interior of this necklace. A valve assembly 13 is fixed to the thread 10 and has for this purpose, at its upper end, an internally threaded part.
The collar It contains a valve 14 shown in more detail in FIGS. 2 to 4. The valve is preferably made of plastic and a silicone rubber is particularly suitable. The valve 14 has a generally cylindrical bowl 15 from which three radial ribs extend downwards 16. The ribs are hollow and each rib is split at its end along a line 17, the slot being formed after the formation of the valve. The upper end of the bowl 15 ends in an inwardly directed bead 18 which engages in a groove from the outside of the lower end of the tube 4. The valve is held in place by a retaining bagne 19.
The valve assembly 13 comprises a metal dome-shaped float 20. The float is retained in a metal cage 21 having four bars directed downwards, spaced apart from each other by 900 around the axis of the float. A diametrically directed retainer 22 serves to pocket the float from peating from the bottom of the valve assembly. The upper end of the float bears against a slide 23 so that if the float is caused to rise, the upper end of the slide is caused to press tightly against the seal 24.
The seal 24 is part of a Schrader valve which also comprises a shutter 25 biased downwards by a compression spring 26. The pressure of the spring is chosen so that the valve is open when a vacuum is applied to its end. higher but that it is closed in the absence of this depression, even if the assembly assembled is overturned on a jar full of liquid, ie if the spring pressure is higher than the hydrostatic press a jar of spilled liquid.
The assembly described so far is normally mounted on a jar but of course it can be removed from the jar to empty it. To connect the above assembly to a patient and to a vacuum source, a removable connection block 27 is used. This block is formed from a single piece of material, for example plastic or neoprene rubber. Passages 28 and 29 are provided in the block, the lower end of the passage 28 being designed to adapt to the nipple 7 and the lower end of the passage 29 being designed to adapt to the nipple 8. The passage 28 can be connected via an adapter 30 to a hose connected to the patient and the passage 29 is designed to receive a suction hose connection 31.
The adapter 30 and the connector 31 have different diameters so that it is not possible to connect the patient hose and the suction hose to the passages not intended for this purpose in the block 27. According to a variant of as shown in the drawings, the adapter 30 and / or the connector 31 can be integral with the block 27. The lower end of the passage 28 is stepped and has two circumferential grooves 32 and 33 directed upwards. These are designed to retain liquid by capillary action and thus reduce the formation of drops when the nipple block is removed.
In the use of the device, the block 27 is firmly mounted on the nipples 7 and 8 and the adapter 30 and the connector 31 respectively are fixed to a hose connected to the patient and to a suction hose. Liquid is thus sucked towards the jar, the valve 14 being flexible enough to allow the passage of solid bodies of very significant size. If during operation the jar fills, the float 20 rises and pushes the upper end of the slide 23 to adapt to the seal 24, thereby cutting the vacuum applied to the jar. We can then remove the block 27 from the nipples and replace it on a new jar. The fact that the nipple 8 is shorter than the nipple 7 helps to ensure that the vacuum applied to the jar is cut off before the liquid path from the patient is cut off. To further facilitate the achievement of this result, it is also possible to provide, along block 27,. de-grip parts positioned so that a person who seeks to remove the nipple block automatically aligns his hand in a position where the fingertips are closer to nipple 8 than nipple 7.
When removing the block from the nipples, it is natural to apply a lever action and if the hand is oriented as described above, it automatically follows that the end of the connection block which receives the nipple 8 is removed before the other end of the block.
