Abstract

Seismic vibrations in the ground are generated from shocks resulting from explosions. The waves propagate to be reflected and refracted. Grouping of the explosions produces a directional lobe for use in conjunction with time shifting of the received signals. A seismic shockwave station comprises several shock wave sources (10) distributed over several metres on the ground surface in order to obtain a directional transmission lobe (L1). This is augmented by vertically aligning the explosions which are ignited as reqd. with appropriate delays. A receiving station comprises several seismic receivers (12) with signal processing circuits. These are distributed over the ground surface to maximise lobe (L2) gain in a partic. direction. Time shifting of the received signals permits modification to the received signal direction.
