Abstract

In the stabilisation of halogen-contg. resins against heat, light and impact by adding metal cpds. and a mercaptan gp.-contg. organic adjuvant, the improvement comprises using as adjuvant an organic acid ester (I) in which the SH gp. is attached to a C atom of the alcohol. (I) is pref. used in amt. of 0.1-5, esp. 0.5-2 wt.% based on resin and it may be added separately or together with the metal cpds. The process is partic. applicable to PVC and its copolymers. (I) does not generate any odour and has a more favourable effect on the viscosity of the resin at processing temps. compared to known stabilising systems. It also lubricates the resin during processing.
