Abstract

The collapsible bench has a rectangular working top with a leg (6) at each corner. The legs are arranged in pairs in opposed 'H' frames which are pinned to the top. The frames are connected by a horizontal demountable tie (11, 12). The tie has half round channel section built transversely onto each end and has a hinged joint (13) at mid-length. The 'H' frames pivot to fold flat against the underside of the top. The hinge may use vertical plates (16, 17, 18) which are welded to the undersides of the tie sections to cantilever out parallel to the tie axis, two of the plates (17, 18) forming a fork receiving a pinned (20) tongue plate (16).
