Abstract

The device for encircling and grasping the neck of the uterus, comprises a plastics ring which is open at one point in its circumference. The two adjacent edges have cooperating ratchet-type teeth which engage to close the ring and grasps the neck. The inner surface may be ridged or roughened to ensure good adherence to the tissue. The ring is put in place using a pair of scissor-type forceps which have their points corresponding to the size and shape of apertures in each of the free edges of the ring. The points are inverted into the apertures and by closing the two arms, the open edges of the rings are brought together.
