Abstract

A magnetic detector operated by the deformation of a membrane due to pressure changes allows the pressure in a motor vehicle tyre to be signalled to the driver. This can operate an alarm when abnormal pressures are present while the vehicle is moving. The tyre pressure is applied to a pressure sensor via a small tube (1). This pressure deforms a metallic bellows (2) in a housing which communicates via a calibrated orifice (3) with a cylinder (4) to displace a piston (5). This assembly is filled with hydraulic fluid and the piston is displaced against the action of a spring (6). The piston is firmly attached to a small magnet (7) in an iron housing (8) and is visible through windows (A,B). A coil connected to an alarm allows differentiation of the magnet positions when abnormal pressures are present.
