Abstract

Filter aid consists of refined linter fibre having an alpha-cellulose content of >95%, a fibre length of 0.6-1.5 mm, and a degree of beating of 30-55 degrees. The filter aid is used to filter alcohol drinks, e.g. sake, wine or beer. By adding the filter aid to the drink, hydrophilic impurities are adsorbed by the filter aid. In an example, the refined linter fibre was produced by subjecting linter fibre to refining, beating, paper-making and wet disaggregation. The refined linter fibre obtd. consisted of 97.85 wt.% of alpha-cellulose, 0.11 wt.% of beta-cellulose. 2.04 wt.% of gamma-cellulose and 0.06 wt.% of fats and oils, and contained 18.57 ppm of Fe, 1.64 ppm of Cu and 2.74 ppm of Mn, and had a fibre length of 1.253 mm, a beating degree of 53 degrees and a polymerisation degree of 1700-1800.
